Why do Hopkins fans say he was washed up when he fought Calzaghe?

Hopkins was never a power puncher, but during his physical best the man was able to hurt his opponents.

I dont care if Joe Lipsey had the heart of a Judah or a chin of a Khan, Hopkins Knocked him the fa out:-

I agree, J Taylor beat Hopkins with a high punch output, but not RJJ. Roy Jones Jr was boxing mainly from the outside and using his superior speed to coast to a win.

Against a young BHop, high punch output would have been the wrong way to go.

But an old BHop, its probably the best way to win, hence Hopkins losing decisions to Taylor and Calzaghe.

Dawson beat Hopkins with a combination of work rate and using speed on the outside.

Thats true, BHop took advantage of the system and advantage of his physical attributes at MW. He was a big MW, but has also beaten good big MW's in Holmes and Johnson.

Another thing, Hopkins is a well disciplined fighter the man weighed in at 155 pound catchweight against Oscar. And that was at age 39. If he lost 1 pound more he would have been a Jr Middleweight

A big reason why he lost is because he was struggling to make weight ya tool. And woo ****in whoo, the only impressive name on that list at MW is Glen Johnson. Trinidad was blown up, Holmes lol, and Echols, lol.

    I'm not saying he was at his peak, but the run he went on before and after Calzaghe. Wins over;
Pavlik, Tarver, Wright, Pascal, pretty impressive.

What Hopkins' fans say that? Hopkins still isn't washed up now. The cardio problems in the Wright and Calzaghe fights were due to a thyroid disorder that he hadn't been getting treated. You can definitely see the difference in his energy level in later fights, and previous fights. He didn't have a cardio problem against Tarver, Pavlik, Ornealas, or Pascal.

The only fights Bernard Hopkins legitimately lost were to Jones jr & Dawson.
Both Taylor fights & Calzaghe fight were gift decisions Taylor nor Calzaghe deserved

He wasn't shot he was well past his prime though. There's no way on earth anyone over 40 is in their damn prime! Saying he was in his prime is more far featched than saying he was shot. Conclusion: you're a dumbass and a Slappy Joe nuthugger. PS that fight could have gone either way, if anything it showed that a prime B-Hop would have been too much for Joe, a little more workrate and the decision was Bernards he just didn't have it in him to fight for 12 rounds, hence the breaks in activity (giving away rounds to catch his breath and recoupe), crying foul to get extra time to recoupe etc....

Hopkins very obviously had huge stamina issues in that fight which more than clearly affected his performance.

Calzaghe has to be given credit for pushing the issue so much, but Hopkin's being 43 years old clearly played a big part in his ability to plough on. Hopkins weakness in this fight came from tiring greatly as the fight went on and a huge part of that would have been down to his age.

Joe beat Bernard somewhere between 9-3 and 11-1.

Joe dominated this fight. The washed up excuse is hilarious. Especially when racist Hopkins won bigger fights after. Hopkins was intimidated by the white boy. And Joe was old.

I did something I said I would never do and I went back and watched this **** again. I was right in my original take on the fight; Bhop Won. As I watched the fight I had a hard time understanding How anyone really could score the fight for Joe. IN order to score the fight for Joe you would have to ignore EVERYTHING that BHop did on the inside (where Bhop won 90% of the exchanges) and count all the Jack rabbit punches Joe threw. Next you would have to be a fan of any type of aggression, in this case totally in effective aggression of joe. You might have been turned off by the "lowblow" shenanigans that Bhop tried to pull . . . it was a totally disgusting display. Finally, you think everytime throws a punch it lands and is equally effective. Bhop landed the harder and cleaner punches all night. This first round I gave clearly to joe was like the 8th or 9th round, there were a couple of close rounds earlier but the clear majority went to Bhop.

All this leads me to what I thought from the very beginning and that was Bhop this fight when he made the "white boy" comment. Also, anyone who could have possibly scored it for Joe either doesn't know what to look for in a fight, is in love with joe (and is probably use to seeing Zaggy type stoppages at home and thought they should have stop the fight because Bhop was dead on his feat), or wanted to Joe to win/bhop to lose because of the racist comments made by Bernard.

Before I watched it again I thought it was a close win for Bhop and it could have gone either way. However, it was not a blow out but it was clear win for Bhop.

Joe landed excellent shots on Hopkins, held his own on the inside and his work-rate and superior stamina carried him through the 12 rounds. Joe was wearing him down when Hopkins faked that low blow, now are those the actions of a man who's in control of a fight?

115-112 to Calzaghe on my scorecard. I've seen many score it 116-111 Calzaghe as well.

For those who say that Hopkins was old and washed up, please explain how he turned in one of his career best performances against Pavlik directly after? Calzaghe is all wrong for Hopkins. Joe was closer to the end of his career at that point than Bernard

Also, Hopkins best win is Tarver, which he recorded not long before Joe.

    Two words: WHITE. . . BOY. . . :)

Haha, after Hopkins lost, every time he would walk around in the hood, little boys would walk up to him and whisper in his ear: "Joe Calzaghe."

what a shitty clip, seriously could you have posted an more edited and sped up version . . .lol. The clip probably showed the only few clean shots landed by joe (in slomo mind you). Bhop's shots were far cleaner and Bhop ate him up everytime inside which was like 70% of the bout with all the clinches. Yes the "lowblow" was for a breather, but the Old guy needed a break . . . just because Joe pushed the pace more than bhop was use to means that he won the fight.
