The above is bulls*it Vitali was holding on. Watch the fight. When Lewis was throwing one of the biggest uppercuts I have ever seen the HBO analysts barely say a word. When Klit throws punches they're going wild.

Vittali looked to be taking the punches ok to me.It looked as though it could have gone either way had it gone on.

Vitali's eye was a mess and the fight should have been stopped earlier but that's not what I was talking about. The "holding on for dear life" thing most of the Vitali haters talk about has no basis in reality. And I'm a Lewis fan as well.

 

Who hasn't? The guy has to have around 20 losses by now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the only man to get a knockout win over him was Vitali.

 

Mate the is a clip of the last round just above, when the commentator says it, lewis is walking backwards and try to hit vitali and vitali is try to hug him like he is a long lost buddy.

If Vitali was ready to go like you say that solid uppercut in the last second would have put him on his back.

Great fight like you say and I would have loved to see a rematch with both of them in better shape.

It was a surprising performance by Vitali who had something to prove at the time.
But he was horribly cut by punches, and the fight had to be stopped. Even though it seemed like a inconclusive result, we have to live with it.
To speculate what would have happened if the fight wasn't stopped is folley.
Should we argue about Dempsey-Firpo now?

 

Lennox whipped that boy's ass fair and square. Anyone who claims that fight should have continued is either a Klit hugger or has never boxed before.



I do agree, though, that Lewis looked a little tired, and could have possibly KOd VK in the next two rounds or threw himself out trying. You can really never tell. VK looked like he was taking punches OK, but he was really holding on the last 15 seconds. Lewis wasn't fazed at all by VK, but looked dog tired....

Vitali would have undoubtedly eaten some canvas had Lewis not been there for him to hold on to with around 15 seconds left. Look closely. And listen to the commentator and what he said....

I am a huge fan of Lewis, and think he was btter than all the yank fighters at the time, and I said so even before he became champion. However, Vitaly is the one guy I think would be slight favorite against Lennox. Not by much thoigh as Lennox was a near perfect fighter.

Well - I think thse two beat pretty much everyone else.
