why do many top MMA fighters have quite a few losses?

they also tend to fall in love with skills they're not really good with and try to win against a guy who's base is opposite their own. cain vs jds was a prime example. cain had no business trading or even trying to strike with him, but he did and got caught so he lost quick.

You said it yourself mate, its DIFFERENT from boxing... the best fighters are not afraid to fight each other in MMA like they are in boxing, whether thats because elite boxers make far, far too much money or MMA is a new sport in comparison or even both, who knows.

All I know is that I`m gonna enjoy MMA while its like it is now because boxing these days (see FMJ & Pac) is a shameful embarrassment & it will be a sad day when/if MMA ends up like that IMO.

because all of the fighters even the top guys are just average street fighters nothing separates ones from the other... only their names, hype and fame makes top guys different than others... look at cain velazquez wins the title and gets koed in his first defense

Because MMA runs the way boxing used to run and the way boxing should still run. There is one champion, and all of the top fighters get made face each other on a regular basis. When that happens, people lose fights.

If someone like Joe Calzaghe had been forced to spend his career fighting younger Hopkins, younger Jones Jr, Michalczewski, Ottke, Collins, Liles, Nunn, Malinga, Griffin, Beyer, Tarver, Glen Johnson, Jermain Taylor, Winky, Pavlik, Dawson, Froch, Ward, Bute, etc etc etc, you can ****ing bet his record would not look anything like 46-0. That's just one example of this in boxing. Could never, ever happen in MMA, where there is only one champion and he must defend against the best challengers on the globe consistently, or fight the best guys out there to even get into the number 1 contenders spot.

you really dont believe that bull**** right? the top fighters dont fight eachother and there is not just one champion in MMA you have UFC, pride, dream, bellator, strikeforce

lesnar never fought fedor and like that one there are plenty of examples.... UFC is ran by one person and he has all the power he decides who fights for the championship and who he'll put aside.. so dont give mma too much credit they are not organized as much as people want to think and the ones that suffer are the fighters

Because MMA is very different. It has a lot more possible outcomes than boxing. Also because the sport is still evolving, and because right now the top fighters are generally fighting each other.

 

Because they are consistently in MUCH more competative match ups then in boxing. Its more similar to other sports where they consistently fight at their level i.e. tennis, football etc

J. Calzaghe is a perfect example, not only did he reign in a diluted (money making division) it was also considered one of the weakest in boxing add to that his WBO belt which was considered 4th most important out of the orgs at that time then you have a classic statistical great rather than a reality based great fighter.

Boxing has what 17 weight divisions, when in reality it should be down to around 7. Survival of the fittest should be the motto, but boxing has gone the other way survival of everyone, your 5 pounds too light? Ok not fair dont fight that guy he is 5 pounds heavier, you just had a hard fight? Ok take 3 easy defences, you just had an injury its ok, fight journeyman.


A. Povetkin is fighting C. Boswell a top level journeyman, but the problem is, he isnt even in the top 20 in boxing yet he is going to be fighting for the WBA heavyweight title, a title that was stripped from the real champ Wladimir.


Anyhow i could go on as there is so much crap in boxing.
