Why do Marciano fans attempt to downplay Liston & Foreman?

Justified concerns?

    52.4%
  2. Pure coincidence with no bearing on hypothetical match

  3. Can't decide

Genuinely honest question as i have noticed, in my time on these forums, that Marciano's biggest supporters attempt to discredit both Sonny & George at every opportunity.

The only conclusion i can draw is that the above 2 are seen by the majority as being Rockys worst possible opponents in a fantasy fight.

Am i correct in this assumption or am i genuinely missing something here?

    Yeah it's interesting isn't it?

A lot of mafia types have bogeymen.

For Dempsey fanatics it's Wills (and sometimes on this forum, Greb).

Frazier, i' say Tyson - thoughts?

Jeffries, Fitz, Corbett - "modern" fighters.

Vitali and Wladimir Klitscko - everyone

I think Dempsey might be the only guy whose fanatic's bogeymen shared an era with him?

As a Marciano fan I try to downplay fighters like Lewis and Wlad because he'd have had an awful time against them, they cheated because they were too big.

They would also have beaten Liston and Foreman ;)

I am actually a Liston fan a Foreman fan and a Marciano fan.

And I don’t think it is necessarily downplaying George Foreman to say he was a not a good champion second time around Because he wasn’t. The comeback of Foreman may have provided one astonishing surprise result but he clearly was no longer a great fighter. This does not detract from Foreman as a champion in the 1970s.

Pointing out that Sonny Liston did not beat fighters as good as the guys Marciano Beat is not down playing Sonny either. It’s actually the truth. If I argue this point it is because it stands up and is a necessary view worth remembering.

I think you are missing something if you think Marciano fans only discredit Foreman and Liston because “they are Marcianos worse possible opponents in a fantasy fight”.

why can’t it just be that Marciano fans are simply pointing out that Foreman and Sonny for all their prowess still had flaws?

I'm a fan of all heavy hitters. I use Foreman to explain Marciano all the time....there is no hate.

What I do is play off perception. Marciano is a polarizing figure, all history is but he's a special case, Foreman is generally loved. I use people's apprehensiveness to criticize Foreman as a muzzle for Marciano criticism because they fight very very similarly.

I've done the same with Foreman and Wilder. People are quick to criticize Wilder's windmills and also quick to forgive Foreman so depending on how you word it you can get someone who takes issue with windmilling to be OK with it because Foreman used it too and Foreman is a golden era god.

I'd have to assume Marciano fans who attempt to discredit Foreman etc are more attacking size theory than anything else. That's how you'd get me to throw shade on Big G, but George would just be an example of big not a personal or specific evidence that size is a non-issue.

If you ask me, Hammer, why does Marciano throw such obtuse hooks I'll use Foreman to explain. If you say to me Hammer I don't think 185lbs can **** with 245lbs then I'll use kinesiology to check your understanding of the physics of the human body and enlighten you that science does not agree and if that doesn't work I'll point to history and how magically big men only got to hold belts when they got their own division and how that just happens to coincide with their survivability rate. The only reason George's name would be a part of it is if you named him. I'd be happy to go from the vague "big" to the specific George but I'd not do that on my own I'd be following your lead. If I use physics to explain big man game vs small man game and you come back to me with a name I'll then use physics to explain within the context of said name.

I've said it many many times. I'm not a fan of the fanfictions people write in classic. I honestly don't give a **** what you think would happen with any fighters a decade apart in activity or better any more than I care about what you think happens when Goku fights Superman.

I mean, I get that youse have been fans a long time and have picked up loads, but I'm a medical professional. There is no telling me "But Teddy said this, or Freddie said X, or Stephen A Smith knows something" etc and getting me to just pretend like that negates medical science. It is my job to know what the body can handle, it is my job to understand different body types. From my perspective all you should need to know is I'm an inventor in the prosthetics industry and I'm pretty solid in my history from 686 BC to now because that trumps "but him huge doe and I dun seen so much doe plus doe this guy whose money is affected by what he gets me to think says X doe" kind of nonsense.

I don't see it. Who are these biggest supporters of Marciano here? I rate Foreman over Marciano, and have mentioned flaws in both of their games.
