Why do Marciano fans attempt to downplay Liston & Foreman?

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by BlackCloud, Dec 29, 2017.

Justified concerns?

  1. Both must be downgraded to increase Rockys stock

    52.4%
  2. Pure coincidence with no bearing on hypothetical match

    28.6%
  3. Can't decide

    Thankyou!
It seems to apply more to Marciano more than anyone.

Probably because Liston and Foreman would be very dangerous opponents for Rocky, especially Sonny.

I would say Im a Marciano fan.

I have argued strongly for Foreman, even pointed put his under rated defense in his youth, which gets shat on as unfairly as The Rocks.

Look I love rocky, he's an legendary fighter, but I've read forums where they have him beating mike tyson, lennox lewis, George foreman and sonny liston. The worst fight rocky can take will be against a one punch knock out fighter like foreman Liston and Tyson were. His style requires him to be hit and although his chin was great he wasn't invincible. Rocky marciano is one of the best, but alot of his fan base has him beating every person that ever lived.

Curious, have any of the supposed Foreman haters ever made threads showing him landing three non KO punches as a way to insinuate that he wasn’t very powerful?

This thread is anchoring the conversation in the wrong direction.

The Marciano critics/haters are far more prevalent than any Foreman haters.

Boxing fans on this forum who rate Marciano above every fighter ever is a myth.

It seems like trying to elevate his name from of dirt slinging to its proper place is taken as an offense to many. And they will construe a distaste for glib criticisms as a movement to make him some unbeatable god. It’s just bs anchoring to put unfair pressure on people who have praise for Rocky.

Hypothetical question. If Marciano could be transported to modern days, matched against the likes of Lewis,Wlad,Vitali,Foreman,Liston etc and failed to be successful against men who would effectively be a division heavier, would /should this have any effect on his very real accomplishments?
    Personally I think not.

    Now 3 literal questions.
Can you give some examples of this "dirt slinging" you refer to?
Which posters do you feel have had unfair pressure put upon them for praising Rocky?
If they are so timid/intimidated,to spare their sensibilities/emotions, perhaps we should have anonymous polls when Marciano is the subject of a thread?

    Bummy ( virtually )

Thats 5 without even putting much effort into it.

None of the above have ever, to the best of my knowledge, admitted that Marciano could possibly lose.

We have posters like SuzieQ who is a huge Marciano fan, the difference however is that he openly acknowledges that Rocky could lose to a Foreman, Liston or Tyson.

Levi Forte deserves a mention !
Not the worst but how did he go the 10 rounds with Big George and yet was KO'd by Dave Zyglewicz a couple of fights earlier (and stopped 16 times of 28 losses in a 50-fight career !) .... ???

For the same reason tyson fans keep calling out Lewis' chin as if he was going to disintigrate the first time tyson hits him.
They know lewis style and size would be big trouble for mike and that Lewis chin would be mikes biggest advantage and the biggest argument for tyson winning prime for prime (although tysons speed, footwork and jab would be a factor too)
