Why do Marciano fans attempt to downplay Liston & Foreman?

To be honest with you, I always felt that the extreme Marciano haters were the problem.

You have to ask the question of who is proactive, and who is reactive.

Are the Marciano fans creating endless threads heaping praise upon him, or are the Marciano detractors making endless threads attacking him?

If the later is the case, then it is the Marciano detractors who are pushing an agenda, and the counterargument of the Marciano supporters, is just the inevitable reaction to that.

 

Remember that thread showing Marciano landing three punches that didn’t KO his opponent, and people laughing at his power? I looked for it but I think it was deleted. I can dig up a lot more, I just don’t want to point fingers at specific people.

 

Worth reading all the nonsense in this thread to get to something great like this.

Well there have been threads saying watch Marciano's fast foot work,look at his clever defence,admire his subtleties.
I haven't seen any saying, look how easy to hit Rocky is ,look, how slow he is,look how he falls on the floor when he misses a punch,look how many punches he needed to stop C*ckell.
So I think you are being, shall we say"selective?" Personally I think most on here admire Marciano ,but some including myself, get a bit p*ssed off with some of the more hyperbolic claims from him that his"Rockistas" promote,and counter them with their own arguments. I don't call that an agenda what would the agenda be, hatred of Marciano ,who would have that emotion, and why?

 

I refuse to believe that somebody who has been posting since 2006, has not encountered a few people who have an obsessive hatred of Marciano, and make multiple unsolicited threads attacking him.

Anybody who has been posting on boxing forums for any length of time will have encountered the type.

These people then try to paint the people who defend Marciano as being the extremist element, just for pointing out the holes in their logic.

Charlie Polite was another of this ilk. Charlie went 10 rounds with the bone crunching power of Cleveland big cat Williams before Joe Bugner dispatched him in three short rounds. Weeks after surviving the swinging steel hard blows from the blonde curly giant Polite then endured jet lag from the Atlantic crossing back home to tangle with George Foreman. There he mustered one more round of punishment than even Joe Bugner could dish out just weeks earlier.

I've been here nowhere near that long and I've encountered more than a few.

 

As someone who endorsed your hunch, all that's being proven is that your perception is shared, not that the perception is accurate.

 

Never mind the story of successful fighters, I want to know more about the unsuccessful journeymen. Rags to Rags is a much better scenario. The names of some of these guys who pad records is just great. I came across a guy called Honnychile Whipple one time. I can’t remember who he fought but I bet his story is sensational.

Perhaps Out there somewhere is a guy cleaning windscreens who fought George Foreman. Or for that matter any great fighter. In bars everywhere there is an old pug who played the part in padding a career.
