Why do people act like Mayweather's 50-0 isn't impressive?

Good resume and without a doubt HOF-worthy.

However, TBE resume in boxing? No, not even close. Plenty of fighters had better resumes even with some losses because they at least tested themselves against the best.

But that's a bit different to to this when you're not being in your building up phase of your career. To actually do it to actually beat a minor siderecord and then blow it up like it's some massive thing, is another matter.
If Wanheng had retired 52-0 after beating low level journeyman Marganti, he would have had that exact same retirement record + plus the unbeaten retirement one. Would anyone (besides trolls) think that had been in any way legit? Answer = NO! But he would have had both the retirement records non-the-less. The legend of Wanheng 'Finito' Meenayothin had been born.

Boxers records are generally against 70% bums or boxers they'll never lose against so you have to judge them on the 30% they actually fought in competitive fights and Floyds matches up quite well.

    1) MMA and Boxing is apples and oranges. They should never be compared in contexts like this. The ice is much thinner in mma and losing there is much more acceptable because everyone knows this. This is also why unbeaten runs are held in higher regard. Add that to that there's less cherry picking in the UFC and it rounds out why there is a difference in attitudes between those examples.

    2) The reason his record is not respected more is many people remember the contexts in which he got his wins. It's not just what your record is... it's who you've beaten. And i's not just who you've beaten, but also when you've beaten them.

In terms of respect, Floyd is reaping what he sowed with such a carefully managed career.

I don't believe that Petrosyan is considered the GOAT in kickboxing any more than Mayweather is considered the GOAT in boxing. For his contemporaries I believe Buakaw could dispute his claim much the way that Pacquiao could Mayweather's to even being the best of his era. Besides that, when I followed kickboxing, the afficionados generally disparaged K-1 and Glory at the expense of Muay Thai. There the GOATs were guys like Samart Payakroon or Dieselnoi Chor Thanasukorn. More modern Muay Thai fighters contemporary with Petrosyan would be the 41 year old Saenchai who probably hasn't retired yet only because he's on a 63 fight win streak. Both boxing and kickboxing are a bit more competitive than you let on.

If we're talking about kickboxing streaks then Tadashi Sawamura is 232-5-4 with 228 knockouts but his competition was trash.

Because he could easily have a handful of losses on his record, he was never dominant, always handpicked opponents, always retired and came back, was boring, safety first, never fought a prime fighter, never was undisputed, and basically encouraged a generation of fighters to be spoiled self-entitled divas. The sooner we forget about him the better boxing will be.

Handful is abit over the top, the only fight he definitely lost was Jose Luis Castillo 1 which would have put him 27-1 and the De La Hoya fight was close but can live with Mayweather winning.
