Why do people compare Ward/ Dawson to Pacquiao/ Cotto?

Ward accepting a challenge to fight Dawson at 168 for his supermiddleweight title

is not the same thing as...

Demanding Cotto come down to a catchweight of 145 to defend his welterweight 147 lb title

This is ridiculous, because a titleholder should be able to take on any fighter of any weight within that division. Saying you won't fight a welterweight over 145 lbs means you're not a legitimate welterweight champion. Cotto's belt should have never been on the line.

That would be the equivalent of Ward demanding Dawson come down to a catchweight of 170 AND put his lightheavyweight 175 lb title on the line. But that's not what happened. Dawson's title is not on the line. Ward's title is.

It's not the same thing at all. Nice try though.

I have. I this forum. It's reaching at best. In any case, from what I've seen, people have the details mixed up (as usual). So I felt the need to clarify.

 

I don't remember the exact names. But I've seen one too comparisons for my taste. I had to put the facts out in front. So I never hear this idiotic comparison again.

 

No, that's legitimate. The details of how those disadvantages came about are different though.

 

No I'm sorry. I don't make **** up. But I saw one comparison in a thread that had somethig to do with Pacquiao and catchweights. I know I saw another comment on an article that had to do with Ward and his "lose/ lose" situation with Dawson somewhere in the article section on this website. I think the article is still up.
