Why do people get offended when your favorite Boxer gets criticized?

    Immaturity.

A lot of young guys identify with a fighter as a hero and someone they want to be and even look like. So they take it real personal when someone criticizes their guy. An older guy has usually grown out of the whole hero thing, so he sees his favorite fighters with more perspective. I'm not criticizing young guys for this. It's natural at that age.

First, I dont want to talk about everyone, but for myself, I never call names and I try to keep it respectful with everyone. Second, I agree with you in part. But theres a difference between criticize and "haters" or "troll" or if you like those who dont have any intellectual honesty and that usually have an agenda. It's about the same for some die hard fans too.

    Here's some exemple:
Theirs opinions, in other words what someone feel about something or someone.
ex: I find watching X boxer boring.
I dont have problem with that. It's you opinion, I might agree or disagree and could argue and have a good and respectful discusion about it.

ex: X boxing is a ****ing gay boring I gonna sleep crap
That is an opinion again, but this time the poster use non useful words, that doesnt bring anything to a debate.

    ex: X boxer is boring.
That is meant to be a fact while it is not. That in my opinion is bad too. Because in this exemple, it's pretty clear it is an opinion and not a fact, but in some other exemple, posters lie or dont tell the truth and/or word it in a way that they try to make an opinion become a fact.

So if I'm on this site it is mainly to have a good debate once in a while with other people. But sometimes (usually when its one of your favorite boxer) it's just too much a lie or something and I (as a fan) need to try to correct a lie or some exageration made by a dishonest person having an agenda.

To be honest I don't get upset about it at all. I believe Floyd Mayweather is going to win tonight for a UD. I have heard many names about him under the sun, (For example, Floyd is a chicken because he's running from Pacquaio. Floyd is a

I enjoy forums only when I can have a good debate going and not when someone is calling each other names or start cursing at one another because at the end of the day we don't know these boxers that we are fans of personally so why take it personal when someone calls Floyd Mayweather a cherry picker?

PS Thewinfella I have been following Boxing a long time since Ali fought Leon Spinks in 1978 and I also got on the ppv bandwagon when Sugar Ray Lenoard fought Roberto Duran on PPV for $9.95 I am a Boxing fan until the day I die.

I am the first to criticize my favorite fighters. After all, when two of your favorites are Riddick Bowe and Jerman Taylor, you better show up on this forum with thick skin. I'll be the first to admit that Bowe ducked Lewis and Jermain failed to live up to all the hype. Oh well. They're not my favorite fighters because they're ****ing perfect. As long as criticism is reasonable, I want to hear it. Its when the claims get all outlandish(Bowe was a fat coward; Taylor is the weakest middleweight champion in history) that I get annoyed.

BTW, if you were to ask me, I'd tell you that one problem with this forum is the number of fans who abandon a fighter the first time they get exposed. So the **** what if Cotto has a chin that can be cracked, if Vitali's face tears easier than a wet paper bag, if Margarito is slower than an arthritic chameleon. Vulnerability and the ability to overcome it adds to a fighter's aura in my book.

And why do so many people on this forum want to talk about quitters, cheaters, and a fighter's personal life rather than talking about boxing?
