A fighter gos out gives his best ...gets clocked on the button or even temple and the Chin checkers **** on him. Having been KO'ed Dempsey in his book stresses keeping one's chin tucked. Any one in the top don't have a glass jaw...those guys never get to the top. Does Tyson have a glass jaw? I was there for Sanders vs Wlad. Had the ref not waved it off he'd beaten the count...and gotten ko's sure enough. How glass was his chin really. I don't know exactly what happened in the Brewster fight....that he'd be gassing in the second round. Not the best chin in the west...but didn't fall down from Haye. Someone gets knocked down.....= glass chin???? some times you get clocked, some time you are off balance. Many KO punches slip though and are not seen. If seen the man can some times move out of the way a tad taking some of the steam off of it. Often enough each guy in the ring got enough punch to KO the other guy. The real kicker is all these chin checkers want an exciting fight....and then **** on the guy who got KO'ed giving them the fight they wanted. They are just haters.... How Glass was Patterson's chin. Ingo had that one punch power ask Machen who fought Liston, Liston...should not try to slug with Liston, in both fights he got up...:good and the last fight with Ali, where he had Ali all awkward getting out of the way of Patterson's fists for a couple of the 7 rounds. There he got worn down, before being KO'ed. When You Jump in at someone....you land on your ass a lot. He was in with a lot of top guys...who didn't KO him. Glass it was not, but sort of fradgile.... Haters hate...makes them feel good. Shavers would be hated today....how sad. Did not have the best whiskers, and who would go down first? If he'd not bought Ali's play acting...perhaps some one would call Ali glass jawed...Cooper put a dent in Clay's whiskers...enough to cut a glove .... 5 minutes rest....they had to go back to the dressing room for the glove. Hell they'd find reasons to hate Chevelo...or a Joe Grim...who was chinny....after all he got KO'ed four times, when his chin was his defence.
Glass chinned fighters should be respected, especially when they are at an elite level like Khan is, because they are only one punch away from doom And without glass chinned fighters, the sport wouldnt be as exciting. If everyone had a Tua like jaw, or a McCall-esque mandible, or even a LaMotta set of whiskers the sport wouldnt have the highlight reels of KOs and guys like Tyson wouldnt have had the same air of invulnerability about them. Moral - glass jaws are to celebrated and respected, and they make our beloved sport ever better
Because they got no ****ing respect and think it's funny to see a guy laying on the canvas. It's not!! Boxing ****s my mind sometimes bc even though I mostly enjoy watching technical fighters I also crave a good violent fight! And the knock-outs that go along. But I also hate the afterward and the possibility that some fighters just never get back from a KO. Too dangerous of a sport to be making jokes about this ****. Coming from guys who are supposed to love the sport and its players I can't understand it.
Agreed. I don't hate glass jawed fighters, I LOVE them. Without them, boxing would be much more boring, as a much larger percentage of fights would go to decision.
\ Thanks alot Hook :good Got some great responses from some very intelligent mature posters here you can see the reality of boxing that any fighter who goes out and gives it their all, whether they have and iron chin or a fragile one, deserves every ounce of respect we as fans have to give.
In my book glass jaws don't exist. But the chin checkers somehow don't bother me. Some of their jokes are quite amusing. Hatred is a strong word and you might be jumping to conclusion. Chin checkers are taken with a grain of salt. They serve as court jesters.
It's better for your health to have a glass jaw and get KO'd instead of taking 12 rounds of sustained punishment, like Holyfield, etc.
I love Glass Jawed Frauds because you're almost guaranteed to see a brutal smashing every time out with them. I'm a huge Kirkland fan for that reason! :rofl
