Agreed. Last night just kind of sealed the deal in my mind. Pavlik at 164+ (Taylor II) is like Hatton at 147. It just doesn't work. Joke beat BHop at 173. There's no way, IMO, that Pavlik could compete with Calzaghe unless he got Joe to drop to 160. Even at that weight, I'm not sure it would be a good fight.

85% of the American press had Calzaghe winning after the fight
90% of fans on Boxrec polls had Calzaghe winning after the fight.
All of the commentators on HBO had Calzaghe winning after the fight.

Yet somehow, "Quite a bit of people" - meaning "All of those who hate Calzaghe and want to see him lose" had him losing? Funny that.

Yes, it was a close fight, made closer due to the fact that neither fighter really controlled the other for the entire fight, but when that occurs and all you have remaining is aggression, workrate and muffled punches landed, Calzaghe wins the rounds that got him the fight.

I thought personally it was a 115-114 fight, With Calzaghe winning 8 rounds, Hopkins winning 4 with a knock down.

Sorry i do not score ineffective aggression, we can agree to disagree.
Being on the backfoot does not mean somebody is losing the fight.

It was a very close and controversial decision with people on both sides stating their cases.... i simply answered the question why people have a problem with him.

You grow up, you stupid tit, you're always bagging Calzaghe and you wonder why people are so defensive of him when a result like this comes down the chain.

Did Hopkins get bagged for being old after the Calzaghe fight? Yes or No? Theres your answer to why Calzaghe people are asking for credit now that Bernard went and won.

Some people are putting down palvik is a p4p , no ****EN WAY,,,,,the guy beat a taylor, who was not game in either fight, sure palvik a sold 160 fighter, he be around for a while, but he was overrated,,,,,an to me bernard took advantage of this by signing on to fight him, an come noverber 8th, when joe beats jones ass, roy would wish he did the same,,,,don't wan't to take away anthing from hopkins victory, but i think kesser, brute, dawson (maybe) would of beat hopkins, an that because all these would beat palvik. Hopkins did a smart move in fighting this guy, an it is a good way to end a career,,,,,

Doesn't matter what you score, you can't win a fight if you're Hopkins if you're throwing 10 punches a round and only landing one, when the other fighter is throwing 30-80 a round and landing 10-20% of his punches.

That was the only close fight Calzaghe has ever had and realistically the only non entertaining fight, people still have beef with him.

If he was American, different story. If he was black? Even bigger story.

I'm done with you, because ultimately like most, you won't give Calzaghe any credit what so ever, this is what paints you as so bad.

Hopkins is old he is 43, and will gas when pressured by a quality fighter who can exploit that.

Is that the Lennox Lewis with the North American accent who lives and works in America!.

On a serious note, Lewis didnt get half the credit he gets now when he first retired, it came a couple years later and deservedly so.

To other people saying they hate calzaghe coz of his nuthugging fans, yes they are ****ing annoying, but if every second thread and everyother post didnt have the words calfaggy, calslappy or other genius plays on words they would have **** all relevant to say.

And the others pissed(and quite rightly) that the day after a memorable performance from Bhop, the talk is about Calzaghe, you should have been here last night, the haters started it with posts and thread about if THIS Bhop turned up against calzaghe he would have KO'd him in 3 and other nonsense of the sort. Go to the thread "round by round", they didnt even wait till half way through the fight before imparting their infinite wisdom on Calzaghe. The nuthuggers are annoying, but the Haters are vomit inducing.

Anyway the day belongs to this man

You people are too focused on the one fight with Bhop and avoiding the bigger issue. No one responds to my original post because is spells it out for people.

The fight between Bhop and JC was close 1-2 points. Yes I had it for JC.

The bigger question is why doesnt JC have more world recognition..not just USA recognition.

That answer is not difficult. Yet no one on this thread has called it yet. it is not because he is white and not because he is a brit.

I am from Holland you arrogant sob, you would think id go for the Euro fighter but i respect skill .. atleast i am not as dumb as you to be blinded by a flurry of air hitting punches.

But don't worry i am done with you too, once you learn to appreciate the finer things in this great sport you might be worth talking too again.

I give Joe credit but blind nuthuggers like you make it increasingly harder.

I posted this is another thread..think about it.

    For you Brits,

Ask yourself this question and think about it.

Essentially no one on earth discredits Lennox Lewis for his achievements.

Still, quite a few discredit calzaghe.

Why do you think that is? When or if you ever understand that answer you will understand why Calzaghe is not considered such an ATG.

The fact is that even Lennox Lewis was slagged off by the US media and most american boxing fans during his career and for someone who thought that Lewis was the man during his reign that was extremely annoying to the point of hypocrisy when he beat every good heavyweight but didnt get the acclaim he rightfully deserved until long after he retired.
You could answer me why this was the case?

Calzaghe is in a similar position, he will not be fully appreciated until after he retires. You could argue that he didnt fight in America but why the hell should he, this has been discussed countless times and gets nowhere - Hopkins refusing to fight him etc.
He has a legitimate claim as a great fighter, has beaten every fighter put in front of him over ten years, most Americans are happy to say that Hopkins had 20 title defences at MW (similar to Calzaghes at SMW) yet he desnt get endless debates about the quality of his opponents and he is classed as an ATG. This is what is frustrating, nationality blinds objectivity!
That is not 'nut huggery' -I respect fighters of all nationalities who dominate their divisions and are the best at what they do. Lewis is recognised as one of THE best HW's of all time now and most objective, impartal and genuine boxing fans would say that Calzaghe is also an ATG regardless of nationality and all the other bull**** spouted on these forums.

I only have a problem with the fans that overrate him.
I can hear it now after he beats the shot Jones, "Calzaghe beat Jones prime for prime".
