Why do people here call Shavers overrated?

Aside from Ellis there aren't any.

    Tyson's got tons.

    Tua's got quite a few.

Wlad and Lewis have a couple a piece.

Ruddock, Morrison, Bruno and even Sam effing Peter have more impressive ones than Shavers.

I said that larger men are on average harder to hurt, not that they were harder to beat.

    Understand?

Oh ya.. I agree on that.
But outside of Vitali.. who can take Shaver's power if he lands on a consistent basis in this era?

    Wlad? Haye? Price :D:D?
    Wilder? Arreloa?

I am 100% certain Tua is a bigger puncher than Shavers though.. Morrison's left hook and Ruddock's smash is up there too in terms of pure power.

And I am disputing that. Boxing history is riddled with examples of smaller men destroying larger men (see Dempsey vs. Willard for just one well-known example). Fitzsimmons himself did it on a regular basis.

The idea that a concussive puncher like Earnie Shavers couldn't annihilate most of today's slow and mediocre HWs is ridiculous.

Who can take any heavyweight puncher's power if he lands on a consistent basis?

In terms of guys able to withstand single shots from Shavers I'd say quite a few fighters, namely Brewster, Peter, Arreola and even Wlad (though he'd get shaken up). A couple of the cruder giants like Larsen and Ustinov could take his best stuff as well, I'm sure.

Jimmy Ellis, Jimmy Young and Ken Norton - to name a few top flight contenders from the best era in HW history. Oh, and let's not forget he had Larry Holmes and Ron Lyle on the canvas too. I believe they both said that it was the hardest they were ever hit. And, they were hardly the only fighters to say this about Shavers!

If you take out Current Wladimir.

Peak Tony Tucker could unify against a 41 year old Vitali and the rest.

I am 99% certain of that.

Tucker was 6'5 and could fight at 235-240. He have very underrated boxing skills, good power, and the best version of him beats everyone today on their current form outside of Wlad.

I will even take the 48-1 version of Tucker over everyone outside of k2.
    50/50 against Current Vitali

Dempsey had to batter Willard to the canvas numerous times to get the win. Willard took a bigger beating than any of Dempsey's other opponents that we know of. Bad example, no?

The idea that a fighter who lost to Bob Stallings among numerous other scrubs could annihilate anyone even in today's top ten is likewise ridiculous.

    :lol::rofl:patsch

I asked you who he KOed and you told me he had Holmes on the canvas? Who cares? Shavers didn't KO anyone of note. Period. Legit savage punchers KO the better fighters they face. Shavers couldn't.

Let's not forget that Shavers didn't win either fight, nor did he become the one and only man to stop Holmes in his career.

No, that was Tyson. But to be fair, Shavers faced a prime Holmes, where Tyson faced an older Holmes coming off a 2 year layoff.

Let's be fair, Shavers fought a shot to **** Ali, so his word on the matter means next to nothing.
