why do people pick journeymen/club fighter brawls as FOTY?

i dont understand why people pick fights like codrington vs bika as foty, where 2 unskilled fighters throw non stop haymakers at each other, if thats the criteria then come to london, in york hall (bethnal green) we have a fight of the year every weekend, where 2 guys beat the **** out of each other for 12 rounds.

I think this fight just exceeded expectation from those that watch the Contender - probably the only reason it got that vote. But it was an entertaining fight.

Well anyone who has their FOTY something other than Izzy/Rafa III needs to be banned....like immediately.

now that is a better candidate for foty, 2 elite skillful fighters going at it for 12 rounds.

    That fight was truly great...

But there were better fights such as Calzaghe-Kessler, Pavlik-Taylor, Marquez-Barrera and of course the two Vazquez-Marquez brawls, especially the 2nd, it's up there with Corrales-Casillo I...

Did you like the 2nd one better than the 3rd?

If so may I ask why?

There is nothing like having two non skilled fighters beating the living hell out of each other and then getting FOTY honors. I love it. Forget boxing, lets all watch mma if that's the case!:good

And why can't people enjoy and appreciate that?

This whole pure boxing elitist BS attitude really needs to be toned down. You don't need to be RJJ and Bernard Hopkins to have an entertaining fight.

Like Foreman said: boxing's like jazz, the better it is the less people like it.

Brawls are fun. I thought Lyackhovich-Brewster was a FOY candidate. Both are better than club fighters but neither are serious contenders. Brawls show you how much heart a guy has, something not always evident when two (so-called) skilled boxers go at it.

I'd take Lyackhovich-Brewster over Sultan-Wlad any day of the week.

Ok... how about the following fights?

    - JC Chavez x 2
    - Mosley I
    - Quartey
    - Vargas
    - Mayorga
    - etc.

There is a reason he's got such a following: he is an exciting fighter AND has never ducked a challenge.

It's a matter of opinion. If you enjoyed the fight more than any other than it's the FOTY to you. no bigge
