Why do people pretend that boxing below lightweight matters?

To be honest though the highest quality boxing is typically found at 147-168. Because they're big enough to hurt, but little enough to be quick deceptive and have high stamina. Plus it has the largest talent pool because it's about average size.

Flyweights are basically Asian midgets and Latino 5 footers.

Not a large talent pool there.

Fine, point conceded about talent pools from 105 up to maybe bantam due to low participation rates (and skewed toward just a small percentage of the globe pop.) - but featherweight and super feather? Both are "below lightweight" and yet classically & presently are divisions loaded with talent.

Well yea. Once you get to featherweight you seem to big enough that you're not a complete size outlier and the talent pool is big enough to produce depth.

Right, agreed. OP seems to contend that anything below 135 is worthless. Clearly not the case. If anything super feather >>>>>>>>>> heavyweight (by some orders of magnitude) on a p4p scale.

    :yep

UFC maybe? That fandom is still in relative infancy and in the "awed by the heavyweight mystique" phase of development.

Sure I agree, sadly that is the case, but just because channels don't invest in showcasing them the way they should. When they do it usually pays off a little, LSC, Mares, Gonzalez, Loma and hopefully now Miura and Vargas have smallish more mainstream followings now because of the exposure they've gotten recently.

I thought the Lomachenko/Russell fight was one of the most interesting fight that I have seen lately. The heavyweight fights are only good for putting me to sleep.

I'd much rather watch Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (who isn't a prospect) in that case I'd much rther watch Jakkrawut Majoogoen (even though he got stopped recently) than Tyson Fury or Kubrat Pulev any day of the week.

HBO is finally starting to "get it".

...and this isn't even their first time making overtures about caring enough about the lighter weights to invest air time and money on them.

Back in the day they were giving the star push to Jorge Arce pretty hard until the unknown Mijares came along with that humiliating, masterful, Calzaghe-Lacy-eat-your-heart-out schooling. Had that not happened maybe that weight range is already mainstream by today. :conf

How can Ali be a poor man's Sugar Ray Robinson when we all know he'd smash him if they fought?

Ultimately, boxing is about fighting, for which attributes such as size, strength, power all matter. If you discount those then you're not interested in fighting at all.

I suggest you watch something like rhythmic gymnastics instead. Should be right up your alley. Lots of flair and skill.
