Why do people pretend that boxing below lightweight matters?

Can I please just have the ability to ban people for one day? The site might lose about 80% of its posters but the quality would increase immeasurably.

The thing about threads like this is, if it's trolling then it's not especially funny. If it's serious then it just proves we're one step closer to Idiocracy.

Ali might beat SRR in a fight, but because of weight divisions they would not be matched. SRR would fight someone his own size and then we get to witness skills that Ali only has a fraction of. That is why i call Ali a poor mans SRR. You seem to be having trouble with the concept of relativism. Shaq would in all likelihood crush Roman Gonzalez in a fight, but i know who i would much prefer to watch.

I do like flair and skills. You do realise that they are constituent parts of fighting? If they weren't then Ernie Shavers would be the greatest fighter ever.

This is why i prefer the non HWs, especially today. If i wanted to see two unfit, unskilled and uncoordinated people have a fight then i would go down to my local city centre and watch the doormen get it on.

Ok, but I think you should let the SRR thing go because that guy seems to be an anomaly.

I've seen the videos of him where he was mid-late 30s and he was still looking spectacular so yea the guy must have ridiculous in his prime.

But I don't think that's a proper representation of the lower weights because it was just one guy who was somehow that good at boxing.

There have been so very skilled and impressive HW's before in the past.

I use the Ali/SRR example as Ali is arguably the best HW ever and SRR is arguably the best sub HW ever. Also, Ali has admitted he tried to copy SRR. He also admitted to being a big Patterson fan and Patterson also admired and tried to copy SRR.

I agree that there have been some skilled HWs in the past, but i find, by and large, especially today, that the lower weight divisions contain more skill and action (in terms of shots thrown).

If Ali beats Robinson he is the better fighter - by definition.

Yes I have a problem with the concept of relativism. It's garbage.

I don't know who the greatest fighter in history is, and I don't spend all day making lists like all the other boxing fans. But I do know one thing:

The greatest boxer of all time is necessarily a heavyweight.

I don't bother making lists either. Prefering a non HW fight over a HW fight has nothing to do with me making lists.

What it comes down to is if i have the choice of watching a competitive HW fight or a competitive non HW fight then i will watch the non HW fight as, statistically speaking for me, i will enjoy it more due to the increase level of skill, speed and punch output. Also, there still may be a KO as both guys are fighting each at the same weight.

Now i know that the HW would win if he fought the lighter guys, but i dont care. I am more interested in being entertained than being bored and knowing who is the best fighter ever based largely on something out of a persons control (size).

I have zero interest in the midget weights. Their fans are either nationalities who are midgets genetically, or pure boxing fans.

    And womens mma.

im a boxing junky and i know for sure that most hardcore boxing fans are deep into the lighter weight divisions for obvious reasons...

Im all about the 112-135. Those are the divisions where guys come in tip top shape with great skills ...

This thread is magnificent. It could be used as a eugenicist's case for the defence.

You know, globally speaking, heavyweight body types are more of an outlier than flyweights?

A boxer is a boxer. Just because they're 'too small', that doesn't make them any less of a boxer. You're talking as though they're too small to be taken seriously for their abilities. If that's your logic, quit boxing and go with MMA, because that is the best 'combat' sport.
