Why do people pretend that boxing below lightweight matters?

Unforviven - Your point about the smaller guys being good compared to other fighters their size, but not against bigger guys is true in a literal sense. Bigger fighters would win in a fight against noticably smaller fighters. However, this may not be the case, and i hate to mention the phrase, in a P4P sense (using the original meaning of the term). Not always, but often, the smaller guys will have better speed, stanima, balance and often, technique. Yes, this wouldn't be enough to overcome the size, power, strenth and punch resistance of the bigger fighters, but many people don't juat watch boxing solely to see who is the best. They also watch it because they enjoy the skill and spectacle of it.

Obviously, if HWs had the skill, speed and endurance of the lower weight boxers then not many people would watch anything below 200lbs. But, as we all know, they dont. That is why so many people, hardcore or casual fan, enjoy watching fights from all weight divisions as what you may loose at a certain weight, you will gain in something else.

Oh I don't know, boxing is skill and you want to see who mastered the skill at the highest level. Those elves would still knock you out.

My boxing history is more than adequate.

Anybody who thinks Audley Harrison is a better fighter than Floyd Mayweather, on the grounds that he'd win in an actual fight between them, is an absolute fool who deserves to be ridiculed.

    I like heavyweight too...

But let's be fair, ALL weight divisions matter.

In some parts of the world, many people are smaller than 135. But they should have their chance to compete in boxing too.

Some of the best fights I've ever seen are in the smaller weight divisions.
