Why do people rate Manny Pacquaio over Tommy Hearns on their ATG list???

The wins over Benitez and Duran are his best, without doubt. Benitez was a fantastic fighter though he was fitting a bit over his prime weight. Beating Duran was good but destroying Duran? That's a special win.

However, I think the Barrera win was better than any of Hearns'. I rank the Duran and Benitez wins alongside Cotto, Marquez and Morales. I think the wins over Ledwaba etc., are similar to Hearns' wins over Cuevas etc..

The thing is though, Pacquiao hasn't shown the same weaknesses. He hasn't shown a poor chin or stamina, and, since being around his prime, he hasn't lost to decent fighters like Barkley either.

I have them ranked similar but Pacquiao ahead by a little bit.

Leonard-Hearns I was the very first fight I watched when I was 9 years old. Both Hearns and Pac have had great careers and they both should be ranked high in the ATG rankings.

It's stupid to think one is much higher than the other in ATG rankings considering they have very similar resumes. Pac has 7 titles in 7 weight divisions while Hearns has 5 titles in 5 weight divisions. While Tommy's best opponents were higher caliber than Pac's best opponents, you have to keep in mind that Pac lost only once while fighting the best and Hearns was KO'd by Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley. It's simply ridiculous to say a loss to a great opponent weighs more than a victory over a lesser opponent. That is nuthugger mentality. It's like saying dying in a Ferrari car crash is more honorable than surviving a crash while driving a Hyundai. atsch

the disparity in the caliber of opponents is the reason why this isnt a very good comparison. after pac fights mayweather, then it will be easier to gauage where exatcly pacquiao belongs in atg standings

Hearns is arguably the greatest junior middleweight ever and one of the best punchers of all-time and at one point in his prime he went back and forth between junior middle and super middleweight beating every one which is true pound for pound stuff.

Also Ray Leonard admits he lost the second fight which was a draw and Leonard in most cases is a top ten p4p fighter of all-time, at the worst top 20. He and Leonard are equals.

In his prime his only loses were to Leonard who is consensus number 2 all-time at welterweight and Hagler who in most cases is seen as the best ever at middleweight.

Some will bring up Barkley but he was past prime by that point, but still came back to beat undefeated silver medallist Virgil Hill.

IDK, you have to be pretty biased to say Manny rates over Hearns who fought in one the greatest eras of boxing for 135-160 and emerged as one of the best.
