Would you rather he be homeless, alone and a drug addict like most former champs?

Maybe everyone hates him because he loses all of his big fights, because he is overrated.

Oscar paid his dues. He fought the best win or lose. Never backed down. He was an olympic Gold medal winner, P4P#1, and in his time was very explosive. When boxing was dying, he saved it.

He's lost all his super fights, yet he's the one getting paid the enormous amount of money.

I don't hate him for his financial success, I hate the fact that he's still the cash cow but he's not even close to the best P4P.

I think people would resent him even if he was poor. I dont think people dislike him cause he's loaded, I personally am just not fond of him.

That is true, but he ran against Tito and when it could not be done saturday night, he quitted.
He does not deserve these kind of paydays, give it to someone deserving, like Margarito... who has been chasing this pollo for years, hear me bro? :smoke

    thats a foolish post.

    people dont resent his success.
oscar was an exciting, hungry fighter at one time but once he became a promoter (for my mind) he belittled the sport that he made mainstream for a couple of nights a year by bullshitting when he was on camera and lacking the sincerity and drive that made him such a marketable animal.

i use to love watching oscar before he tried to convince people that "i got what it takes" and "this is the fight of the century" bull****.

don't get me wrong, i respect the guy 100% for stepping up against the guys he did. that takes balls no matter who you are.

but he did it for the wrong reasons and tried to sell some of these fights as something that they were not.

if you want to see real oscar de la hoya, check him out when he wasn't balancing it with business. i mean fernando vargas and before.

watch those combos and left hooks fly with a passion that made him who he is today...

    Well let's see.

    He beat p4p#1 Pernell Whitaker
beat undefeated p4p fighter Ike Quartey
beat p4p fighter Julio Cesar Chavez twice
    beat Hector Camacho
    beat p4p fighter Fernando Vargas
    beat Ricardo Mayorga
    beat Rafael Ruelas
    beat Jesse James Leija
beat undefeated Genaro Hernandez and on.

Guaranteed, had he lost to any one of those you and the haters would be adding that to "the biggest fights of his career".:deal:-(

I could'nt agree more. He seems to of gotten real sloppy now that he's a promoter, and yea, I think he's lacking the sincerity and drive that he used to have and be so famous for.

    You think.

Boxers, fighters, they eat boxing, sleep boxing, sweat boxing.

Oscar for one is past his best. Two is, he is trying to fight guys who do the above mentioned, while he does it as a side hobby.

I didn't think it would have affected him so much, but apperantly it did.

No. People hate him because GBP rips off the Public by charging 54.95 for mismatches.
