i dont get it, jermain taylor faired better against pavlik than edison did, he almost had him in the 2nd round, edison just got his ass handed to him.

    Average puncher

Pretty worrying that Pavlik, the great hope, is staggering around the ring like my Gran after a few sherries against him

Can't decide whether thats because of his dreadful defence, or his chins a bit dodgy

Either way, he doesn't want Joe Calzaghe

    Thus says TFFP:hat

People are dissapointed with Jermain because he came on the scene KO'ing everything in sight but he has yet to score a stoppage against an elite or even close to elite opponent. He hasn't had a KO in over 2 years despited fighting 2 guys moving up to middle for the first time (one whom had been KO'd at 147).

I'd say he has decent power definatly hits hard enough to keep his opponenets honest but does not have the kind of power to change fights with one shot

I agree with you KG. WHen he had Pavlik hurt if he would have placed his punches right, the fight would have been over

He has above average power, but he doesn't deliver it like a KO puncher.

JT is a big MW who has the raw talent to do good things. And he definitely has power. He just doesn't have a brain to utilize his talents the right way. He's still a raw fighter. He cocks his right hand back. He doesn't use his jab enough. He swings his arms back and forth for no reason when he should have it up to his ears.

I don't know if he'll "get it" and just become a good boxer where he will know how to use his talents the right way. And despite all his flaws, he's still only lost one fight. Well, technically. So that's saying a lot about him getting by on talent alone.

Exactly. If Taylor hit particularly hard, guys like Spinks and Ouma would've been starched.

When has Ouma ever been starched? He has a chin like a rock.

Good, maybe even great power, but doesn't plant his feet when punching and that just kills it. With the velocity he throws punches, and the size of his fists, he should be a ko artist.

Remember when Lampley was suggesting in the second Hopkins fight that Jermaine would knock Hopkins out

He has very good power. He just doesn't know how to use it correctly. The Winky fight, Wink was all bruised and battered, after blocking well over 3/4's of the punches.

He doesn't know how to use punches to set up other punches, or use angles or movement particularly well. He has a nice hard jab, is able to visibly slap the guard of his opponents out of the way when he throws haymakers, problem is, if a guy has the time to get his hands up to block, that power doesn't mean a whole lot.

I think he has more power than Pavlik, but Pavlik has more refined, tuned punches. Taylor is like a 454 engine with a pinto transmission. All the power in the world doesn't equate to jack, unless you can translate it correctly.
