Why do people say that '88 and 86' Version of Tyson is the best but not '87 ??

I always wondered this...Whenever talking about Tyson its always seems to be 88 and 86 Version that always gets brought up but not 1987 version.

is there a specific reason its like this? I want to know please..

87-88 he was at his peak. I don't know why anyone would say 86'.

Never heard that. Most people who watched Tyson know he faced Spinks for the undisputed and linear heavyweight championship in 1988. His 91 second demolition of Spinks was the pinnacle of his career at that time after unifying all three titles. Tyson only regressed from that point forward. 1988 was peak Mike Tyson.
Tyson was under Rooney from 85-88 so people consider those his best years.

People might be referring to Tyson's fight against Berbick in 86 as his best performance. You could say prime Tyson was 86-88, personally I always refer to 88 Tyson as his best version. 87 Tyson was as good as 86 Tyson just that people usually have either his Spinks (88) win or Berbick (86) win as his best performances. He had some awesome performances in 87 as well like his destruction of Tyrell Biggs.

I thought he never looked better than he did against Berbick in '86. Four-five punch combos from all angles, constant head movement, speed, power.... then again, his performance against Spinks was flawless as well.

No it wasn't. The result was great, the performance based on his display is beyond overrated.

Agree, but I don't hear people overrating it much. Everyone knew that Spinks was a blown up Light Heavy, who was scared shitless before the contract was signed.

With the exception of "OLD" Larry, Iron Mike was knocking out guys that probably wouldn't equate to a whole lot in today's division.

Tyson was at his BEST in 84, only he got ruined by Teddy Atlas.

That Tyson would have been even more devastating.

Tyson in his PRIME at his BEST is unbeatable.

Have to say it's an odd statement. Tyson was quite clearly at his peak in '88, not in the preceding two years. Take a look at his early '86 fights, he had the blistering handspeed to batter his opponents, but you can see at that point he hadn't quite learned his craft yet, in a couple of them he knew he had the guy, but didn't quite know how to finish him there and then, and it took him several extra rounds to put those guys away, whereas a few fights later he'd learned how to pick a shot and put his entire force behind it for the finish.
