Why do people say that Sergio Martinez is a skilled fighter? He's not!

He's skilled. Just not as skilled as many people think he is.

Having a speedy flamboyant style can do a lot for you in terms of having people think you have more skills than you really do.

For one his defense isn't all that great.

I think people believe he is skilled because of the whole Lineal MW champion of the world thing. Other than that,I dont see how they could think he was any good. (sarcasm)

A stupid boxer would put his guards down when he is in range and can't move fast enough to avoid strikes from within. It's smart to rest when you know you are at a safe distant, but I think JCC will win not because Sergio is not skilled but because of timing, power and accuracy.

 

In fairness, Byrd lost almost every round to Vitali. Real talk.

 

Martinez is skilled but it's his athleticism and endurance that makes him special. He does things in the ring that are unconventional, but gets away with it because of his athleticism. I can actually see how someone could come to the conclusion that you did, but of you look closer, you'd see Martinez has skill. The fact that he fights with one of his arms down by his side is a skill in and of itself, how many fighters could get away with that?
