Why do people say that Wlad needs to fight Peter to be champ?

Didn't he beat Peter clearly & definitely already? How is fighting & beating him again going to clear up anything or establish anymore credibility to Wlad's claim to #1?

Think about it. What are Peter's credentials to being the gatekeeper to #1? After his showing against McCline, can anyone really say that he's the #2 HW?

Agreed. I think Peter should give McCline a rematch.

In reality, Peter is not the number 2 heavyweight, nor does he deserve to be. But in the Ring Magazine rankings, he is number 2 and Wladimir is number 1 which means if they were to fight, it would establish the Ring champion at heavyweight.

I think Peter is still the number #2 for now, but if another top #5 heavyweight put on a very impressive performance against another top-ranked fighter, I consider bumping Peter down.

He don't need to fight Peter again, Peter have nothing to offer for him.
Wlad already proved he can stand against Peter power and hurt him on his own and he clearly outboxed him.

Better challenge for Wlad would be: Valuev, Chagaev, Ibragimov, Liakhovitch, even Ruiz.

One of the other champs. Most likely Ibragimov, Maskaev, or Chagaev.

Lets be serious, who did really beat Peter beside fat Toney?
He lost to Wald and was KD 3 times against McCline.
Is the KO over Williams so great?

Ruslan Chagaev - his wins over Virchis, Valuev, Ruiz, and Sprott surpass Peter's wins over Toney and McCline.

Sultan Ibragimov and Oleg Maskaev are my 3 and 4th ranked heavyweights. Peter is number 5.

I could see putting Chagaev or Maskaev at #2, but not Sultan.

The problem to me is that right now nobody really sticks out as THE NUMBER 2 heavyweight in the world. Wlad is clearly the number 1 guy right now, but 2 is up for grabs. I do think a good case could be made for Chagaev or Maskaev.

Sultan would get layed out by Peter, Peter should be ahead of Sultan. Peters last 2 oppenents were better competition than Sultans, who cares what he did a couple years ago.

Yeah, a good argument could be made that Chagaev is the number 2. And if he looks good in his next fight--provided it's not against Wlad, in which case, moot point--I'd have no problem bumping him up.

    This is true.

Tho he showed he was the superior fighter, he was hurt and should attempt to redeem that.

Tho if he CAN get a shot at Wlad...he would be crazy not to take it.
