Why do people say Tyson was visibly out of shape against Douglas?

No one was saying that back then. Tyson looked like he always did physically, it was a big shock when he lost. Not one person thought to themselves or said out loud, "Tyson looks out of shape tonight" when he fought Douglas.

Tyson was dropped by Greg Page during a sparring session leading up to the fight but that wasn't the first time Tyson had a rough sparring session. Oliver McCall and Elijah Tillery had given him some rough moments in the past as well.

In my opinion Tyson was not the best he had ever been that night (mentally) but he was in good physical shape that night.

I met Tyson at the USA boxing facility in the Springs in the early 80's and I thought he was a middleweight not nearly big enough to fight with the monsters in the heavyweights let alone the super heavyweights he ended up beating up.

What gets me is when when guys like Lennox Lewis, and the Klitchko's come along they are crowned as great, but lets just consider this a 6'5" a 6'6.5 and a 6'8" becomes champion they are great even though during their time they have all the physical advantages in sheer size over their comp but when an undersized fighter with every physical disadvantage comes along he isn't....hmmmm

This was bought up during the Tillery-Bowe fight, where even the commentators were laughing at Tillerys claims that hed got the better of Tyson in sparring.
