At the end of the day, Mike Tyson accomplished more in professional boxing before the age of 23 than anyone else. He was a tightrope act walking a narrow thread, a very undersized heavy fighting on speed and mobility against much larger foes, a guy grabbed from dysfunction and then enabled to keep his head above water long enough to be an earner. Oh, and he made some really horrible choices in life, too.

I aren't a lot of fighters I would bet on against him in the mythical 96-98 era. If you old farts can have your "Toledo Dempsey", I can have my Atlantic City Tyson.

I was laughing a little too but I've also heard that Tillery was a handful in the gym.

McCall gave Tyson, Mercer, and others a hard time in the gym... even Mercer and Tyson back this claim up.

 

Tillery had a lot of talent. He was an underachiever.

Some guys are better in the gym than actual fights. There were many reports that he looked great in sparring.

He seemed to lack heart in actual fights, though
