Why do people say Tyson was visibly out of shape against Douglas?

Please show me proof he did in 2 weeks??? There's footage of him getting his ass kicked in sparring a few week before the fight and he looks in good shape. And since when does fcuking leave you unfit?? Complete utter bull**** I say...

If screwing Japanese women is so detrimental to fighting ability how come Samurai had so many concubines ? :huh

Have you read an books on Tyson? Have you read any of the interviews with him over the past few years?

    Yes and yes.
So you base it on what he says ?

    - I've read interviews with plenty of fighters who blame every loss on alcohol and drugs and partying.
    - I've read plenty of interviews with all kinds of celebrities who place a lot of emphasis on their drug and alcohol abuse, and it often seems like they do so to explain away their selfish and arrogant behaviour.
    - I've know people who will claim they used to do X grams of coke and X pints of beer X nights a week when I know full well they were never quite the party animal they like to make out, nowhere near.

Steve Lott, for one, disputes that Tyson had drink/drugs issues while he was with that camp. I tend to doubt it too. The media certainly were not all over it. Tyson was in the ring often and did plenty of preparation for his fights.

Years later and Tyson claims he was Ozzy f**king Osbourne all along. I don't buy it.

And, like I said, even if true, the same drugs, drink and parties exist in the world and lives of every fighter.

OK, let's imagine Tyson was off the rails since the Berbick fight, it makes little sense that he was looking, if anything, even sharper over a year later in the Holmes, Tubbs and Spinks fights.

OK. Just trying to see where you are coming from, if you had read the available materials before coming to your conclusions.

Mando Ramos shot heroin the day he won the title. Some guys can ride very high before flaming out.

Tyson was having a litany of substance, legal and medical issues during this time. This is not an excuse and in fact should be factored into any match-up.

I agree, a fighter can get away with drugs and alcohol abuse for years before it catches up with them. That's more reason not to use it as an excuse for when a fighter unexpectedly loses.

Tyson was having troubles, yes. Just about everyone living does though.
Certainly the likes of Berbick (schizophrenic ?management/promoter issues, change of trainers), Thomas (former heroin addict, divorce issues, management issues, detached retina issue), Tucker (major managerial issues, drugs??, injury before the fight), Biggs (drugs and alcohol, already been in rehab), Tubbs (drugs, weight problems, promoter problems, trainer walked out the week before the fight !) .... they had their problems.

Buster Douglas had problems too. His mother died, he had long-standing managerial issues, he was ill leading up to the fight etc. etc.

Don't forget he was on medication prior to the fight and had been pretty badly ill, of course Tyson fanatics don't know or want to know this, I mean screwing a few ladyboys is way worse than being ill.....

Tyson was ill when he fought Berbick. He had to go get shots the day before the fight for his advanced gonorrhea. He was also certainly an addict by any measure.
