Why do people say Tyson was visibly out of shape against Douglas?

Well like Unforgiven mentioned? Why did one of the biggest Tyson nuthuggers out there Steve Lott say as far as he knows Tyson wasn't a drug addict or an alcoholic.... Very strange indeed....

True but Tyson wasn't very ripped against Douglas.
Otherwise the Ratliff,Berbick fights were in 1986 the Tucker in 1987.
Tyson fought Douglas in 1990 .every trained person knows the
fat and muscle ratio can change easily.

i don't know only one case when the boxrec showed the fat percentage.

You are off your rocker if you believe Tyson was fat, he's never been ripped with a bulging six-pack.

or people like Rooney and Torres and Tyson himself who saw all the signs in play. It was only a matter of time.

Again, and this is the important part, this is NOT an excuse for his deteriorating performance as a fighter but it is damn sure the cause. He lacked the mental focus and composure to maintain his championship. That was a crucial flaw in his game. Unless you believe he was operating as his peak for the Douglas fight...

Each and every fighter on the planet as a cause for their deteriation, it's just not shoved into our faces by their fanatics. Can't you accept that he was beaten by the better fighter on the night? The fight was so one sided there's a very good chance a fully fit and focused Douglas would have always beat him.

Douglas was the better fighter on that night but Tyson was not the fighter he had been previously.

And Tyson was a **** hair of a second from winning it, also. So, how much of a one-sided beating it was I am not exactly sure.

Well that's your opinion of the matter, maybe Douglas didn't allow Tyson to be the fighter he was previously. Fact is he kicked his ass when it mattered, no if's or but's.

Not really as Douglas said he could have gotten up at any point of the count, he timed it perfectly and proceeded to beat the living day lights out of Tyson the very next round.

Yes. It's hard to stay at that level for just about anyone, in any profession. The biggest argument seems to be that Tyson was still prime against Douglas. Age wise, yes, he should've been in his prime. But fighting wise he fell off from Bruno onwards. With Bruno, Williams and Douglas it was fairly evident.

Bruno, Williams and Douglas were the 3 fights with Snowell and Bright in the corner. Not saying they're at fault but in those 3 fights Tyson looked as bad or even worse than his post prison comeback. I'll chalk it up to his work ethic.

I'd definitely agree that his work ethic declined after the Spinks fight. Also, I believe he was out partying a lot in 1989.

However, I've yet to see any evidence at all that he was an "addict" and "off the rails" around the time of the Berbick fight and throughout 1986 and 1987, and well into 1988. For the Holmes and Tubbs fights he was at his absolute pinnacle, and the chaos didn't really start until after Jim Jacobs died a couple of days after the Tubbs fight. Still, he remained physically 100% sharp for Spinks fight.

There were plenty of drug addicts in heavyweight boxing at the time and their slow schedules and erratic performances showed it.

Tyson was in his prime and looked physically fine.

There is little one can take away from Douglas.

Who says he was visibly out of shape ? Which magazine /reporter said so? He was unfocused and lethargic and had been declining in so far as not utilising combos and defence for some time.

Plenty of moronic nuthuggers on here claim Tyson was grossly overweight before the bout and had to lose it in short order, I've shown video evidence that this is just bull****...
