Why do people say Wilder has improved?

    Hard to tell
Either he has improved or Ortiz lost a step which is also highly plausible.

we’ll see how he does against fury who is a much better litmus test.
Then the usual bums he faces & old man Ortiz.

He is sharpening his 1-2 combo all the time. The timing, the positioning, the set up. Also, he looks less ridiculous in terms of losing balance, even if it still happens sometimes.

The Fury fight is another story, because Fury is taller than Wilder and the opponents he faced. Wilder will need to adjust aswell to that. Fury has a small reach advantage too if I remember correctly.

Agree with the poster who says he's improved his timing. His last few few KOs have been one punch, pinpoint laser shots. His a bit different than other fighters who rely solely on their power as he has perfected the art of timing the perfect fight ending punch, rather than unloading punches on a stunned opponent and 'punching himself out' .....Wilder can lay in wait for as long as it takes, then land his shot at any point and take an opponent out even when they are alert and full of stamina.
He already did it Fury in the first fight, fury was just able to survive. We'll see what happens in February

    What once was so terrible,
    Tis now merely bad,
    What once made me weep,
    Now just makes me sad,
    Though quite rudimentary,
    Remains his technique,
    He's no longer looking,
    Like Okolie on beak,
    How good will he get,
    How far can he go?
    It helps that he starts,
From a bar set so low,

Exactly, his patience is the biggest improvement, along with his timing. His spacing and range has improved as well. He's creating his spacing and range with angles.

Wilder isn't about "improvement". His style is pretty obvious and will barely change. Wilder is all about his freakish power. If his opponents can withstand that, they win. Fury did, but was unfortunately blatantly robbed. The rest were sacked on spot.

He has improved. Don't get me wrong, he's still an uncoordinated low skill windmilling gangling mess with a hideous resume who gets outboxed by NFL rejects who can't box, glass-jawed soccer hooligans, and OAPs dragged straight from the geriatric ward who are and always were even back when they were in the prime stupid easy to hit with right hands. But credit where credit is due is he has made some improvements.

He hasn't expanded his skill set at all and in fact is a more limited boxer now than he used to be (relative to 2015), but he has become very good at the one thing he does really well. His defensive footwork also has improved, and thus he was able to take some pretty good shots from Ortiz (and even a few from Fury) well.

He didn't improve that much, but his team made him understand his limitations and strengths. He can't box so they practice a one two all the time, like kung fu masters, who practice same move thousands of times.
There's an expression: "you can't teach a donkey to dance"
But in Wilder's case it's "you can't teach a donkey to box".

I see problem for Fury.. Wilder is not a great fighter. He has good power and the saves him. Actually great power.. He would throw that right hand and Fury just had to duck. If Wilder throws more of an uppercut on the inside and mixes it up with that right he could stop Fury. Fury moves his head but he does not block enough. I want Fury to win, but Wilder just threw the right over and over and Fury just ducked. It was not too complicated.

Wilder looks les uncoordinated than he used to. The right hand he took Ortiz out with was picture perfect.

Wilder gets ripped on for his boxing skills but his fight are entertaining. There is a little drama too it. Plus, people like to see knockouts, especially at HW.

Hands down the best post I have seen on this site about Wilders recent 'improvements'.

    Thank you

The note "Wilders first fight vs anyone of note and he gets a draw." is particularly relevant. The fact that Wilder had to rob Tyson Fury to get this rematch speaks volumes.

He has improved marginally. Seemed less wild in his last fight but it’s a small sample size against a really old and faded Ortiz. He still has a long way to go before he is anything more than a freaky long guy with impressive power. He’s not a competent boxer by any stretch but he makes up for it with massive punching power and athleticism.

Also, we don’t need to argue or speculate about his skill. The Fury fight will show how far Wilder has come or how far he has to go. He’s fought a very low level of opposition in his career and looks great against cans. If he blows Fury out of the water early or at any time, his stock as a fighter goes to a new high. This is the beauty of boxing.
