I'm not talking about the past, I'm talking about recent years (since 2004)

2004: Wright gets the crack at WBC/WBA/Ring 154 lb. champ Shane Mosley, who is the biggest name at the weight not named Oscar De La Hoya. Wright gives Mosley an immediate rematch and gets paid by far his biggest purse to date ($1.5 mil).

2005: Wright gets a fight with the biggest star at middleweight in Felix Trinidad, and earns a career high $5 million in the process.

2006: Wright gets a shot at the champ at 160 in Jermaine Taylor, who is also the biggest name at the weight at the time. Winky gets over $4 million for this fight. They are unable to come to terms on a rematch, as Wright wants more money.

2007: Wright fights Hopkins for the Ring title at light-heavyweight.

For the past 4 years, Wright's been getting some of the biggest, most significant fights and largest paydays in those divisions. Wright was supposed to fight Paul Williams this year, but HBO vetoed it, and promised him a fight next January.

Now people are claiming that he's being avoided by Pavlik/Arum, but Winky hasn't fought in over a year, and that wasn't at middleweight either.

Why do people say that Wright is so avoided NOWADAYS??

This isn't the early 2000s anymore.

I don't think he's avoided at all, if anything he is doing the avoiding by demanding money cuts he doesn't deserve

    Stinky is a little *****.

He's a hypocritical little *****. All that bull**** he gave us about how he had to trek through Europe to get his dues and earn the big fights when nobody would give him a shot, and now he's in a position to make big fights and he prices himself out and has a completely unrealistic valuation of himself in proportion to his draw.

He's been offered plenty recently. Who the hell would avoid him after his recent showing anyway? He's old and there for the taking.

People say it because we haven't heard a peep since the Hopkins fight and people think he's being ducked, even though it's his own undoing.

He was avoided back in the day and had to go to Europe to get fights. Props to guys like Vargas and Mosley for actually fighting the guy.

That's only 3 fighters out of how many that were high profile from 147 to 160 at the time? There was really nowhere else to go for those fighters (exception mosley) because both fighters made a lot of money in those fights. I wouldn't say he is avoided now, but the prospect of fighting him shouldn't be appealing to anyone, even now

That's it right there. Winky hasn't fought at 160 in nearly 2 years. His last fight at 160 was against Ike Quartey who was coming off a loss to Forrest at 154. He fought a draw with Taylor who lost to Pavlik twice. Top Rank and HBO still offered Winky $1.5 million and a slice of the PPV revenue to fight Pavlik, and Winky turned it down.

Yeah you do need to give cred to vargas and mosley for taking him on, even though that was probably the dumbest move in Shane's career. Winky was also a champion for a couple years in a division that was hot at the time before he fought shane.

I'm not a Winky fan. But some people like RealIZM can't seem to grasp the fact that he would beat guys like Sturm and Kirkland.
