It depends on the weight Jones Hopkins II fight at. If its at heavyweight or cruiserweight, Jones has more power and speed along with punch output. Hopkins would risk getting knocked out. If its at light heavy it would be an even match, and it would depend on which Hopkins and which Jones show up. If the Jones that beat Lacy or Clinton Woods shows up, that Jones woul beat even the best version of Hopkins. But if the Jones that showed up for Tarver, Johnson, or Calzaghe shows up against the Hopkins who beat Pavlik, Hopkins would win a UD. I don't think on paper Hopkins has the style to beat a boxer type fighter like Jones. Calzaghe already beat him and Jones would have to fight him the same way, or fight him as Taylor did, the key to beating Hopkins is high punch output, and I think the Jones that beat Lacy has a high enough punch output and accuracy to beat Hopkins. I do not think the Jones that fought Tarver or Calzaghe would beat Hopkins.

I'd want to see Jones take on Hopkins and Toney again at Heavyweight, this way one of them can be knocked out and retire.

I have yet to see RJJ performance against Lacy but I doubt he is any better than he was against Calzaghe.

Prime for prime I RJJ wins every time but Hopkins would at least be competitive. But now Hopkins is simply too much. Jones' hand speed while still quick are no longer as fast as they once were and his reflexes are nowhere near as good as they were before. It's Jones' mobility and footspeed which have declined the most, he was once so agile and elusive but now his legs have simply gone.

Jones hand speed will undoubtedly give Hopkins problems even now but he doesn't have the workrate or the agility to beat Hopkins. In a reverse of the 1st fight we would now see RJJ forced to try and walk down the more mobile and elusive Hopkins.

Styles makes fight and Jones doesn't have the tools anymore to beat the executioner. Hopkins eats alive slow footed fighters like Tarver and Pavlik it's quick guys with good jabs and slick movement just like RJJ in his prime that give Hopkins fits. If Roy still had his legs I could see him really being a threat like Calzaghe was but he doesn't so he loses a UD.

I think Hopkins would win but it would be quite close tho, RJJ is more past prime at this stage but the best versions of each other would result in a Jones win IMO.

I wonder who would come forward. Given their history it seems like Roy would force Hopkins to make the fight, and Hopkins is perfectly capable of coming forward, but he'd rather counter.

In all honesty it would probably be ugly as hell to watch, but hey...

That is the thing though, level of opposition. You think Hopkins also wouldnt stop Tito, Lacy or Sheika?

RJJ's handspeed is good but Hopkins can slip that, look at how hard a fight Hops gave Calzaghe who has a much higher workrate and is also very fast.

RJJ doesnt have the body movement he used to have for defense, he will be getting countered by Hops and I dont see him letting his hands go like he did against stationary guys who didnt pose a threat like Lacy, Sheikra and Tito.

    Not even close.

In the last 4-5 years Bernard has beat MUCH better competiton.

Bernard has overall MUCH better boxing skills.

    Bernard hasn't been KTFO twice.

Bernard brutally KOs Roy in 2009 - 2010.

lmao Hopkins isn't brutally KO'ing anybody at this stage in his career....Hopkins wins by about 3 rounds if they fought today.

Hopkins was a killer pre Trinidad...hes been a cunning old warrior ever since using all that cunning to pot shot past opponents....

Jones was far superior at hsi best, people forget he beat Hopkins with a broken hand going into their fight...talk about gamble!!

but Hopkins deserves so much credit for his performanceas into his latter years.

Bernard is better as a standard boxer, Roy is a athletic phenom who would've been good at almost any sport he started.

Roy doesn't have the fundamental base like bernard which means he has a more spectacular but shorter prime and once that athleticism goes he doesn't have any fundamentals to fall back on and so its more or less over.

Bernard on the other rather like james toney may lose to the freak athletic roy in his prime but has better fundamentals and base and more textbook boxing skills which means he stays relevant at 40 yrs old with no Roy Jones fade because he doesn't rely on athleticism.

Beat MUCH better competition? In the last 4-5 years he's only had three wins - Pavlik, Tarver and Wright. There are question marks over all three - Tarver was suffering from the post-Rocky weight drop syndrome; Wright was very undersized, and he still made it competitive, and the jury is out on how "good" Pavlik really is. To be sure, no argument can be made that Jones's competition over the last 4-5 years is superior to Hopkins, but I think it's a bit of an overstatement to say that Hopkins has beaten "much" better competition

Roy fights on instincts first and foremost, if he is given time to do so...
Only guys that apply constant effective pressure added with good foot work will derail a guy like Roy's instincts.

Hopkins ain't such a fighter, he's not active enough in a fight to constantly bother Jones. Hopkins can be as smart as he wants in the ring but a guy as fast and unpredictable as Jones cannot really be fought against with too many possible game plans...and Hops thrives on plans.

ROFLMAO You Calzaghe huggers amaze me. Your hero get gifted a very very Dubious split decision win over Hopkins yet you claim Hopkins was " soundly beaten" ROFL. you'll accept anything to get slappy a win.
If Calzaghe thought he "soundly beat" Bernard why did he retire instead of rematching Bernard at home in Wales in front of his fans???
I'll tell you why he knew Nard would kick his ass all the way down the Rhondda Valley and bang goes his 0 he struggled ducked and dived to protect

If Johnson could put Roy down and completely out then I see no reason why Hopkins can't do the same...
