Why do people think Holmes hit harder than Ali?

Maybe Ali did hit harder, I tend to think Holmes did.

Holmes had a harder jab, had a good uppercut, & could dig hard right hands to the body. He had no hook. Ali had a good hook, faster hands, & a good right but no body punches at all.

Like most here I don't think there was much in it. Holmes probably punched harder on average, since he sat down more on his punches and didn't have the same problems with his hands. But did he ever land more devastating punches on anyone than Ali did on Williams, Bonavena, Foreman and Lyle? Not so sure of that. The uppercut he landed on Weaver was fantastic, though.

Ali didn't have much power left after Manilla, though. Don't know if it was due to his hands or detoriating timing. Perhaps both. But other than the rights he landed on Dunn (that were more precise and well timed than down right powerful), I never saw him punch with great effect post 1975.

How about asking the people who fought them both?
