Why do people think professional boxers are incapable of being scared?

Scared as in "losing their spot" Yes.
But scared as in getting their ass kicked, I disagree.

Fighters get scared because they are humans. I don't think they usually get scared of fighting other people. Specially when you have somebody like Floyd Maywetaher Jr. with all the confidence in the world that he truly is the best fighter in the planet.

It's boxing and it's what they do, I remeber commentators saying abut Cory Spinks that he believed the ring was probably the safest place he could be. Boxers know what to do inside the ring and fear of fighting other people I think is more of the exception rather than the rule amongts the elite, if they really fear getting seriously hurt or beat up they probably wouldn't have become boxers in the first place.

because they want to believe that their hero is invincible. Even Ali was scared of Liston when they first fought.

Fighters get scared not only because they fear the consequences of losing on their career but also because they fear A) getting humiliated and made to look weak in the ring and/or B) getting badly hurt by a vicious, dangerous opponent.

The fact that they would fight anyone for the right amount doesn't mean that they aren't afraid of said opponent. It's just that being prize-fighters, they compensate for that fear and risk with the right amount/reward.

Sometimes, when they are really scared, they go down as soon as they get hurt/take a dive.

Man, tell that to Bruno in the rematch with Tyson. He looked like he was going to **** himself. Some do get scared just before getting in the ring especially with a KO artist. Some get petrified once they are in the ring and get hit with a shot from hell and think "what am I doing here".

On a related note, Golota's problem had nothing do do with "will power" or any such archaic nonsense.

He had clear panic reactions and other faults.

If he had been medicated properly he may have avoided the problems he faced.

Maybe he was just treatment resistant.

I mean, Charlie Zelenoff sure as hell looked scared when he was in the ring. Speaking of which, he has a fight coming up, thought I might make the trek down to the back woods of Arkansas and check out that barnburner.

Are you saying a guy with good boxing skill, good physical strength and awesome punch power can be scared of things?

    You really are naive.

Look at Ricky Hatton's face when he was walking to the ring to face Manny Pacquiao...if that wasn't fear, I don't know what is...

...also, look at any number of Tyson's pre-Douglas opponents.
