why do people think RJJ was PRIME when he first fought hopkins?

    RJJ became a better fighter when he moved to 168lbs you could clearly see jones had better movement and became a better boxer.

    the other question i wanted to ask you guys is. when Roy came back down from heavy weight. he seemed to have lost that power he had before moving up. i remember the times when RJ would hit his victims with the first left hook and u could see the damage it would have on his victims causing them to go into a shell. at 168lbs he had 1 punch knock out power in both hands. and i would have to go on to say if Jones had landed the same punches he landed on Calzaghe. when he was PRIME like the uppercut he caught Joe with would have dropped Joe and caused the fight to be stopped the same round

    i'm a huge roy fan and i agree with you, many will and many won't. just the nature of jones. some will always say the weight didn't affect him and he was always chiny and always overrated. some will say he was never the same fighter after ruiz.

    as to 160, i agree. he was just as green as hopkins (amateur career yes, but not as a pro) and made huge strides at 168. jones simply wasn't at his peak, neither was hopkins. again, you will always get two sides to this.

    do you agree by watching to tapes of RJJ back then and now. the punching power of RJJ is visible. he looked really strong. even when he moved up to 168 he looked strong

    oh completely. he was rightfully named to ring's top 100 punchers of all time. at 160 he was a knockout artist but at 168 he really hit his stride. he clearly showed at 175 he had the same power (kelly, griffin, hill) but he didn't choose to use it. in every way he reached his peak at 168 and the jones that stepped into the ring vs paz was one of the ten best fighters i've ever seen

    i remember when he fought ruiz how he stunned him badly. that showed u just how had roy hit at 168 to 175

    he busted his nose (as so dramatically shown in that hbo special) and his straight right was really lethal. almost catching up with that left hook

    The best Roy ever was, was at 168 between 1994 and 1996.

    i liked his straight left better then his left hook. so fast and powerful the power would get u and the speed making it worse.

    I don't believe people think that.

    Usually what we hear about that fight is that Jones was more mature and ready as a fighter than Hopkins at that point, which is true.

    exactly, that's fair. neither was at their prime but jones was much more prepared for a fight of that level

    Whats insane is that after they fought in 93 neither man didn't lose a fight for more than a decade ..10 + yrs ..Both men made each other better but it was clear Jones was head and shoulders above everyone else in the sport !

    Jones couldve won if he released his combinations. i think that was round 5 when roy starts to punch and won that round. jones right now dont have it anymore. the reflexes are gone.

    Hopkins and Jones were both at pretty much the same stage in their careers when the fought the first time, just entering the bigtime, Jones > Hopkins for me, he already did the job.
    Hopkins gets points for longevity but he got beat when they were close to prime, I dont care much what happens in the geriatric ward afterwards

    you can say the same thing about hopkins. hopkins also got better and went on to unify the mw titles. both men were young and entering their peak. there were alot closer to their prime then the they were last week.:barf
