Tyson fought to the last drop against Douglass, holy field and those shots he withstood against lewis would've decapitated lesser men...he gets a bad rap for the McBride and Williams fights...the lewis fight marked the end of his time as a serious contender... Tyson will tell you he didn't have it anymore by then...the hunger, desire and do things he always could

He never ducked anyone and was a truly great fighter

Like Kevin Rooney prior to the Lewis fight, "Mike will take his beating like a man. That's how he was taught"

He had a warrior mentality for sure, to suck everything up to the end. The fact that even Lewis couldn't resist praising how tough he was to dislodge even tough it was such a one sided fight tells a lot especially given the fact Lewis hardly ever praised his opponents in post match fights for eg klitschko

Teddy Atlas has done a good job of circulating the "bully the bully" cliche and making people think Mike was mentally weak.

An oft-repeated lie, when it becomes the legend - well, always print the legend.

I'm not saying he was Marvin Hagler or Finito Lopez, but he wasn't Oliver McCall or Andrzej Golota either.

I agree that Tyson had more heart then he's been given credit for. Despite taking a beating from Douglas he nearly pulled it out the bag in the 8th and he fought bravely against Holyfield and Lewis too.

Probably the most heart he showed though was scoring the KO against Botha despite being behind on points.

I agree, he definitely had heart, but also showed signs of discouragement in the ring at times. I think when he was no longer the favorite to win certain fights is when his heart was displayed.

Tyson had heart, but one can both have heart and unravel when things don't go your way, as the two qualities aren't mutually exclusive.

Mike had guts. He also couldn't always control his own emotions and could get discouraged if things didn't go his way.

People are Confusing lack of conditioning with no plan b, he didn't have the height or reach to outbox much taller fighters as the fight went on. His whole style was dependent on fitness and conditioning. He always did the best he could with whatever he had in the tank on the given day

he never gives up but once he starts taking a beating its like mentally he stops trying to win.
