Why do referees shake fighters' gloves up and down after knockdowns?

    I was about to point that out. It's the same in the amateurs, except the referee doesn't wipe the gloves, the boxer wipes them on his jersey.

    Its a greeting between those in the profession. Like a secret handshake between fraternity brothers.

    i remember when i was fighter am's in australia and the ref's were pretty ruthless (scored more KO's than the opponent..)

    i was a very good am and didn't have many KD - but they seriously use to pull you to them almost as an ego-play just to test where you were.
