i see coverage for the jones calzaghe bill starts at 12 so setanta are doing this for what is probably their biggest fight of the year
great point. the fans who hate on setanta don't know there born. remember the days when sky was the only one covering boxing. JESUS THE BIG FIGHTS THAT WERENT COVERED
exactly im talking over 2 years ago to the time when sky first emerged we had nothing, sky would show all the big fights involving british fighters naz lewis bruno etc, but apart from those they would show 5 to 6 (on average) big title fights a year and thats being generous, the other fights we got were the likes of anthony farnell and takaloo fighting for wbu titles, no offence to these guys but we were missing out on the fights that setanta are now showing, and i just hope they keep it up
I remember when King was on fire in the early 90s and do not remember missing too many of his supercards.... Something tells me I was not watching them on ITV anymore either.
i rememberwatchin some good king bills too but he was not a monopoly back then either still we suffer here though, we will miss bute andrade, and mijares darchinyan over the next two weeks
We do miss some but to be honest I think we see a lot lot more than we have. The Mijares/Darchinyan fight might be shown on Eurosport (usually about 2 weeks late though) as both their last fights were.
The Calzaghe and Jone build-up will start at 10pm on the night. There will also be shows on the Weds, Thurs and Fri nights. Try and imagine what it was like in the 70s. There are dozens and dozens of great world title fights that I have still never seen. We have had it good for nearly 20 years - we are all spoilt. Honest. Trust me. Adios.
Bunce I demand Setanta show Mada Maugo Vs Farouk Daku. Also any chance of a HBO 24/7 style build up show for it
We are filming our version of 24/7 - it will be more like 9ish/7ish but it will be as brilliant. Trust me. There is also a new Roy interview. A fantastic interview with Joe talking about ten or so of his fights. It will be a great week. We will have people in New York - people back here. We will be all over it. Adios.
I meant a 24/7 HBO show for the Kenyan fight, sorry was me trying to be funny. RE Calzaghe/Jones Jnr sounds top stuff, nice week long build up and long show will really wet the appetite. And to be fair to all those people knocking Setanta for £12 in october we saw Ryan Rhodes Vs Jamie Coyle, Vitali Klitschko Vs Samuel Peter, Antonio Tarver Vs Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik Vs Bernard Hopkins + undercards from all those fight. On sky for £15 (if you chose to) you got Amir Khan getting knocked out by Breidis Prescott in udner 60 seconds + undercard
And it ran live from 8 o'clock, two good undercard fights, then the main event, then it even ran over time until 11.30 to show the last fight of the evening:good
yeah and the fight network showed mijares munoz channel 427 skydigital, so ill keep an eye out for that
i dont think anyone was knocking setanta man, i clearly said in my first post i take my hat off to them they do a great job and we would be lost without them, just asked a simple question thats all
bunce any chance of the bills on setanta the ones where coverage would usually start 2 or 3am starting an hour or two earlier to catch the other fights or is this basically what you guys get for the money you have spent
I totally agree; anyone who thinks we were watching Zarate, Arguello, Pedroza, Duran, DeJesus, Cervantes, Benitez, Napoles, Leonard, Cuevas, Monzon and Foster live every other weekend did not live in the decade! If you were lucky, you went to some god awful Town Hall to watch a closed circuit show with no sound and a poor picture, on a 22" TV. Some may hate it, but Pay TV and Pay per views are some of the best things to happen to boxing in the last 20 years. But my issue is ITV started to treat us in the 80s with ad-hoc live boxing and SKY took it to a new level in the 90s; Setanta though just do not seem to have an idea of what they want to do with the sport to take it to the next level. They seem to consume the stuff SKY is not interested in, rather than having a plan of what sports they want, and how they are going to help the sport (and thus their profits) grow. It is nice that the Jones fight is going to happen from 10pm, these are the type of fights that deserve 6/7 hours build-up. Personally though I would like to see Setanta broadcast less live boxing, but with more build-up. Backed up with a fortnightly/monthly highlights show of the rest of the boxing ala SportsWorld Extra....
