It really isnt mystery, its plain and simple. All the people he has lost to have an advantage in speed...the ones he beat he was able to neutralize there weapons because the had to set up...they couldnt get off first.

well i think Dawson would win a SD, Hop knows how to neutralize your weapons....but if you have more then just one or two, he normally wont win especially if one of them is speed

Taylor - had to deal with long jab, speed, and combinations
    Calzaghe - southpaw, speed, combinations
Jones Jr. - we all know how mesmerizing a prime Jones Jr. was

but yeah i think Dawson has too much to offer him, a BIG southpaw, speed, power, and combinations among other things....so yeah, i'd have to put my money on Dawson, though it wont be an easy fight, or pretty one

Why compare the Taylor fights to a Dawson fight? Just because Taylor beat Hopkins, doesn't necessarily mean that Dawson will.

Taylor beat Hopkins but lost to Pavlik, therefore by your logic Pavlik would probably of beat Hopkins, yet B-Hop schooled him.

First off, this is at 175 not 160. Hopkins is stronger and more efficient at light-heavy. Secondly, he's a much, much better fight overall than Dawson.

And to add, I don't necessarily think that Dawson is a better all-round fighter than Jermain Taylor either.

I would not favor Hopkins in this fight, but I wouldn't favor Dawson either; after Pavlik, it's pick 'em any Hopkins fight I'm not absolutely confident in. Hopkins had a resurgence moving up to 175 pounds. Dawson also does not take the best punch, which Hopkins could use to his advantage. I'm not saying Hopkins would knock Dawson out, but rather Hopkins could tag Dawson just enough to keep Dawson honest and hesitant to come in. After that, Hopkins would have him where he'd want him and pick his shots.

This is one of maybe 50 scenarios for this fight. Again, I have no clue what would actually happen, which is partly why the fight intrigues me.

johnson didnt eat punch after punch his defense held up well and he took a lot of punches on his gloves.
I think whoever fights dawson next is gonna have to close the distance fight in the pocket and not give him room to fire off the combinations as i havent seen much evidence he can fight inside yet

Stezzie makes a very good point. Styles do make fights and B-Hop does have more trouble with the quicker more technically polished fighter's. The Pavlik result was very impressive but Pavlik is slow and very predictable and is tailor made for Hopkin's. Dawson is the complete opposite, quick feet and hands, throws multiple combinations at different angles. Dawson is the type of fighter Hopkins does have trouble with.

I don't know if Dawson would win but it would be very tough for Hopkins. A true 50-50 fight in my eyes.

Whoever said Johnson showed the blue print for beating Dawson does have a point but Hopkins fights nothing like Johnson and more importantly does not have the stanima to emulate Johnson's style thus making this good point mute in this instance.

For Hopkins to win he will have to use all his cunningness and superior boxing knowledge to neutralize Dawson's speed and control the pace of the fight. He neutralized Calzaghe's speed rather well in their fight. It was only Calzaghe's high work rate, thus taking Hopkins out of his comfort zone, that beat Hopkins. Dawson will not fight with such a high work rate as Calzaghe so Hopkins could pull it of. Like i said it's a 50-50 fight for me.

to be fair, i think hopkins was having trouble making 160 the 2 times he fought taylor. he said that himself after the second fight i believe. im not saying hopkins would beat dawson though.
