Why do so many put Tyson in their all time top 10 HW greats?

I dont think that Tyson was lacking in mental toughness at all.

I dont think that he was among the best heavyweights of all time in this regard.

I do think that he was well above par in this respect.

He wasnt so much mentaly weak as unstable.

They are two diferent things.

 

Which of his fights was Tyson most motivated for?

I would be interested to hear opinions.

 

Larry Holmes. A chance at beating a legend and he capitalized on it by knocking Holmes out.

 

His dominance over guys who were the cream of the crop in the 1980s like Pinklon Thomas, Bonecrusher, Holmes, Berbick, Tucker,Spinks,Tubbs. He wiped them all out.

 

i agree on the mental toughness issue. any boxer when they are out of shape (or havent got it any more) are going to question themselves in the ring

duran and jcc quit on a few occasions. you never see people question there character

bottom line,, young tyson was ****ing KOing verybody he fought. i think he was champion at 37-0 34kos before th douglas fight. .. knocking out #1 contenders, beating who was out there. nobody took the HWS like tyson and he was the youngest Champain ever.

dominated and destroyed everybody in the division at that time and never came close to getting beaten prior to 1990.

He still shouldn't have got beaten so badly. And on the slide? In his previous fight he had KO'd Williams in 1, and he would go on to steamroll Stewart and ruin Ruddock. That's not much evidence for a slide.

You cited Ali's KD against Cooper and his tough fight against Jones as things that wouldn't happen to Tyson in similar circumstances. But in both these fights he was a bit overconfident and didn't take them seriously enough. He also hadn't reached his prime yet. And, more importantly, he won both. So if you're going to cite these fights, you can hardly just dismiss Tyson's loss to Douglas.

 

But when Douglas came back strongly in the 9:th the fight seemed to go out of Tyson. It seemed like he stopped believing he could win.

 

tyson's opponnets were all good he just made them look like nothing hence stopping them from even gettin anywere in the sport!
