Why do so many Top Rank fighters want "unreasonable" money lately?

It sure seems like a lot of Top Rank fighters or in some cases ex-fighters want "unreasonable" money these days. Cotto, Chavez Jr, Garcia, Walters, Rigondeaux, and now apparently Crawford have all been accused of demanding too much (and in Rigondeaux's case it was expecting the guarantees the company voluntarily promised to him!).

Is it really the case that all of these guys have suddenly had unreasonable expectations in the same short time span, or is it perhaps that the company simply lacks the resources and/or willingness to actually satisfy their fighters?

They have Haymon Boxing to compare their pay to. Top Rank paid Manny $8 million per fight until he realized that he wanted equal or close to the same pay as his competition, Floyd Mayweather was making and rightfully so, he was pulling in numbers.

As for the rest I don't know. I know that Bob is frustrated in building fighters up and losing them, but this is mostly on HBO's hands.
    They make pay promises too.

Bob Arum complained that Haymon was bad for boxing because he paid the fighters too much .

They're all trying to jump ship to PBC, but the thing they're getting wrong is that the experiment is soon to end. Gaymon's plan is failing. If he keeps these crazy high paydays and absorbs more fighters without getting the proper ratings or monopoly, he's done. There'll be a lot of fighters unsigned.

This allows Top Rank or GBP to vulture off these fighters and pay even less. The rise of Gaymon has really put these fighters in a bad situation. If they let Gaymon create his monopoly, they'll be getting paid UFC pay-rates, drastically lower. If he fails, a lot will have burned bridges and will likely come back to lower pay.

They all look at fighters like LSC and Wilder who had their paydays without taking a bunch of risk. The only problem is that it's not feasible. We all know Gaymon's plan and it doesn't involved keeping these high payrates once the monopoly is in place.

I'm not quite sure it's fair to say it's all Haymon though. Cotto jumped ship to Roc Nation, not Haymon, for the same reasons some of you are attributing solely to Haymon's influence on the market. Likewise, I don't think Haymon had anything to do with Top Rank not being particularly interested in paying Rigondeaux's contractual guarantee. And I don't think Crawford or Walters are in a position to jump ship at any point in the near future, at least as of yet, but it seems they too are being accused of asking too much by Arum.

Fighters talk, if you hear Haymon fighters on your level are getting paid very well (more than you) then you are going to ask for similar.

Mickey Garcia has been released so we will see what happens with him, that could be bad news for Arum if Garcia starts making good money, a feel a revolt coming.

I wonder how much of a cut Bap takes from his fighter's purses, maybe that's the reason they want more

No he complained that Haymon was using illegal tactics to try to monopolize boxing. Imagine this you buy up every last drop of oil in the world. You offer to pay more than ANYONE else on the planet for it. Then you can sell that oil for whatever YOU want. You own ALL of it. Haymon is trying to create a monopoly. Not a charity for fighters.

As soon as he controls boxing, he will pay the fighters much less.

All of those guys except for Walters left Top Rank years ago and went to Haymon or Roc Nation. You should blame them.

More like imagine a group of people who were selling oil for $59.99 for decades and a guy came along and bought up all the oil and gave it away for free (on free TV).

Imagine how mad the guys who used to sell it for $59.99 would be.:deal

BOB ARUM was the guy who was against PPV because HE PREFERRED CLOSED CIRCUIT ... where you can charge EVERYONE a high fee who watches the fight, and not just a household the fee (where more people could get together, pitch in some money, and watch).

And he's said he'd go back to closed circuit if he could. (He even brought it back for De La Hoya-Chavez I, but people boycotted.)

Paying fighters a high fee and then not charging viewers to watch it eats at Arum's soul.:good

You obviously have some sort of mental deficiency. Haymon is still in the process of buying up boxing. He needs to run everyone else into the ground so they can't compete. He's doing his shows at a loss so that everyone else will be forced out of the game. His dream is to control boxing the way Dana White controls MMA. That's even why they chose the name PBC, he wants it to become synonymous with boxing.

Once everyone else drops out, Haymon will start charging outrageous prices for boxing, more than anyone ever has because there will be no competition. He is a lizard in human skin, don't trust him... His businesses are not charities.
