Listened to mayweather snr talking to Hatton against manny , 'keep your hands up , dont lunge in, see what he does first'. Cannot always blame the trainer when it goes wrong.
Sure you gotta keep the guy motivated. But I think of a corner guy as the offensive and defensive coordinator of a NFL team. From the sidelines they have a different view of what the player sees from their own perspective. With that they can try to make adjustments. Like he drops his guard when he goes for a body shot and whatnot. Of course it's still up to the fighter to listen to them or not. And of course sometimes game plans and adjustments don't work. But I still think that a good corner tries to keep his fighter's head in the game and still listening to the tips he's giving.
Sometimes you need technical advice and other times just plain and simple encouragement and sometimes both. It's easy to second guess from the stands.
A lot of trainers are really just glorified fitness trainers. They can get a boxer in great shape, but they don't know the technical aspects. Freddie Roach is an exception, he delivers instructions between rounds.
Why? Naz needed to know that Mosley understood...I'd be pissed off as a trainer too when I'm giving good advice and all I'm getting is a vacant look as if he's not even listening to me. Nothing wrong with what Nazim did that night.
This content is protected Buddy: "...you hear, I'm not gonna let you take no shots Lamon" Brewster: "...." Buddy: "So I'm gonna pull the plug... talk to me baby" Brewster: "I'm trying... I'm trying" Buddy: "I'm gonna pull the plug baby... I know you're trying but it's not here" Brewster: "...." Buddy: "That's it baby, that's it...... REFEREE..."
And in Wlad's corner that night: Steward " You about to knock him out with your jab" What a difference in the rematch huh? :hat
The trainer is not the one in the ring fighting, what he see from the outside may not be what the fighter see on the inside. The saying it's easier said then done plays a good role to. A fighter not keeping his composure and discipline can aslo effect his focus with following his trainer instructions while fighting.
Sometimes, the coach can make the difference psychologically. He has to know what to say and how to say it to his boxer. I remember Stephane Larouche, Lucian Bute's coach, in the bute-Bika fight. In the three first rounds, Bute was stiff, not moving well. Bika was winning at that point. Larouche just told him: "where is Lucian Bute? We need Lucian Bute if we want to win." Bute stood up and won the rest of the fight. When Kessler was losing against Calzaghe, I was outraged by what his coach was saying to Kessler. Don't yell at your boxer if you even don't know what to do.
This was the death of Hatton. Like really, I think Hatton died and was brought Back to Life. They Blamed SR for that lol. How can they? Ricky did the oposite of what he was told
Crap, beaten to the post again! Shite cornerman but you must admit Stoney made Ruiz's fights not only watchable but HILARIOUS. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWYvAJe2Fpg[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUz_8VkpoNM[/ame] (last quote is an absolute gem)
