Why do some losing fighters raise their glove at end of fights?

I never understood why some fighters do this.

Some guys will totally get dominated and still raise their glove as though they won at the end of the fight?

Andre Berto did this when he got schooled by Mayweather. He totally knew he lost but still raised his glove as though he overcame a tough Mayweather and broke his 0.

    Like what gives?

Because they forgot that they had a serious rotator cuff injury.

You say that but Mayweather raised his hands then claimed torn rotator cuff years before Manny.

We're talking about fighters who lost.

Fighters will do that unless the get the **** beaten out of them.

A fighter who finishes who's never knocked down finishes with pride. It's the satisfaction of saying you never got me down man. I never went down.

In the few amateur bouts I had as a kid I never raised my arm when I knew I'd lost. When you're in the ring though, you do tend to overestimate your own showing. A lot of the time the defeated fighter may actually think they've won. When you've been comprehensively beaten, however - eg. Berto-Mayweather - you don't raise your arm. It just adds to the humiliation. Delusion is the only explanation.

Or a sense of pride in doing better than expected - that's probably why Berto raised his arm.

He didn't go down. There's some pride in that.

That doesn't stop you from bringing up irrelevant response bait.

Definitely. Personally, I wouldn't raise my glove but, still, there's no shame in taking pride in that.

Boxing is a very macho sport. If you can't knock the other guy down he walks away with some pride. Always.

Because scorecards vary, judges are idiots, and hope springs eternal.
