Why do some people hate Vic Darchinyan?

There are a few fighters out there that can claim to be pure entertainment machines. Fighters that will always put their heart and soul into every fight. Fighters that will always come back after a loss, fighting harder than ever.

Darchinyan is obviously one of those guys.

But the hatred he gets from a small core of dedicated individuals is... overwhelmingly bizarre.

Is it his big mouth? Other fighters get forgiven for having bigger mouths, yet achieving less. For yapping like little dogs and not even trying to back it up. Win or lose, Vic will always try to back it up.

Is it his refusal to acknowledge defeat? That's the same quality that has let him bounce back and keep fighting until the end.

Is there even a good reason? If every boxer had the same amount of sack as Vic, then boxing would be in a much better state.

 

Do you even like boxing?

 

No he isn't. He has an ego, but he is hardly a dick.

A few people think it is trendy to hate him, and don't even know why - relying on "He's a dick" comments which can't be backed up.

Fighters get free passes for all sorts of things. Being dirty fighters, being roid users, cheating on their spouses, taking easy fights, Even having bigger mouths than Vic does.

But because some people think it is cool to hate Vic, anything he does automatically is interpreted the worst way. Hell, there are people even saying that he deliberately headbutted Perez - even though that would have just as good a chance of cutting himself. That's not just stupid, it's actually insane.

I think the question has been answered. There is no good reason. Anyone who really liked boxing wouldn't have this strange hate of one of the most entertaining fighters currently around.

I think the thing is that a lot of people talk ****, but so few of them try to back it up.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like **** talkers. I hate them, generally. But so few of them really, really want to back themselves up.

It's like Carl Froch. At first I didn't like him because he has such a big mouth. But the more I saw that he really, really wants to fight the best, the more he has grown on me.

I see Froch and Vic as pretty similar in that respect. They both have big mouths, but they have big hearts too - and they make ****ing awesome fights.

Vic's problem is that he doesn't have a big boxing national fanbase behind him. No Brits, no Americans, no Mexicans, no Filipinos. None of the big fanbases behind him, but all of them can feel free to hate him - especially those who don't like boxing much.
