Why do some people only watch the heavyweight division?

I ONLY watch heavyweights, and everyone is welcome to their own opinion, so you can take your elitist attitude elsewhere. I KNOW that the heavyweight champion of the world (pick your era) can defeat any other boxer in the entire world, that's why I watch the heavyweights. The lighter weights for me are like watching college football or basketball. They may be more "exciting" within their own little world, but if the NCAA champion faced a pro team, they would get smoked.

Damn, I'm the opposite. I'll watch everything BUT a heavyweight fight.

People who only watch the heavyweights aren't real boxing fans IMO. Yes the heavyweights land big shots.

The true art of boxing has always been on display in the lower weight divisions.

If the heavyweight division was exciting then fair enough. But the heavyweight scene is complete garbage right now.

    Not really a comparison.

The diffence with the above is skill and talent.

The heavyweight division is full of less skilful and talented athletes right now. So you are watching a form of college football or basketball without even knowing it when compared to other weight divisions.

No, the heavyweights add another dimension of using height and weight to their advantage. It opens new range of techniques unavailable at lower weight classes.

Because those people are most likely only casual fans...And to the causal fan, size matters the most, while true boxing fan appreciates boxing skills...which are displayed more at the lower weight divisions.

It's like any sport. College Basketball is much better than the NBA, but everyone watches the NBA because it has much better players, but it's much more boring.

    Exactly...

heavyweights = form of college basketball.

welterweight = NBA - athletes showe greater speed, agility, reflexes, skill, hand eye co-ordination, etc etc
