Frazier had great power in his punches,no question.... But i think Tyson had more pop in his punches, def more explosive.
Frazier came back from defeats with more heart. After he lost to douglas he was never competitive in a big fight again.
There was a period of time between 1967 - 1971 when Frazier was undoubtedly the baddest man on the planet. We all understand Ali was locked out of boxiing due to draft issues at that time. And to say this would've been a win for Ali is no different from that assumption in their last 3 fights. First of all Joe Frazier was the HW master of the bob n weave by far. Nobody even comes close. Also his left hook is the best in HW boxing history based on the stiffest competition that division has ever had and the tremendous left hooks that took out so many of smokin' Joes opponents.. Joe had been in a lot of wars by the time he met Ali for their 2nd fight. He had been in a lot of wars by the 1st one but Ali wasn't as busy as Joe had been. Tyson had fast hands and a lot of power but Joe could stand up and bang under duress. Anytime Tyson ran into adversity he would just fold. And he made a habit of it post Buster Douglas! Mike didn't fight anywhere close to the competition Joe did or he would've taken at least 2 losses against real fighters which he did later. All those tomato cans in the 80's were meant to build his record and it did. But nothing prepared Mike for the sub-standard HW career that was to come post 1990..... prior to Ali vs Frazier I Joe had beaten Buster Mathis 2x's, Oscar Bonavena, Jerry Quarry, Jimmy Ellis,George Chuvalo and Doug Jones. Mike at no time in his career was ever faced with these types of opponents back to back let alone the last 7 out of 9 fights. It just goes to show you how the HW division changed after the mid-seventies! Anybody who'd compare Tyson to smokin Joe didn't see him fight in the 1960's.
Simple answer : Because Frazier does not/did not collect pigeons. Complex answer : Do you really want to have your ear bitten off?! Careful with your posts, unless you are wearing some serious ear muffs my friend.
Frazier, especially considering the insane level of competition he faced. H2H, Tyson would have had a few rounds to knock Frazier out (Frazier was very hittable), but after that, Frazier's relentlessness and mental toughness would have been way too much for Tyson. Far lesser fighters than Frazier took Tyson the distance. And if Frazier connected with his left hook at any point the whole fight would have changed immediately.
Joe should be 2-1 against Muhammad (had his chief second been less compassionate; or Muhammad's more) Mike would be 0-3 against either. With all due respect to Mike.
I'm not sure who wins H2H thats a tough one, but Frazier holds a victory of an un-arguable top 10 HW of all time (Ali). Whenever Tyson fought any HW thats ranked in the top 20 - 25 of all time (Excluding an old, and somewhat out of shape Holmes)... He lost.
You can't just use one win to say someone's better, if that's the case then Douglas is one of the ATGs at hvy. It's about overall resume. Frazier has Bonavena twice, Foster, Machen, Chuvalo, Quarry twice, Ellis twice, and the Ali I win. Tyson has Berbick, Bruno twice, Ruddock twice, Smith, Tucker, Spinks, Holmes and ..... Seldon As we see, Tyson is better proven against punchers though Ali, Bonavena, and Quarry had decent power. As far as Tyson "folding", watch his Ruddock fights, Botha ko, and see how he recovered against Bruno in the first fight. I swear that many people on here don't WATCH boxing.
fraziers winning resume is a ****ing joke. his win over ali is a great win. the rest of it is a ****in joker, a light heavy in bob foster, buster mathis, quarry - give me a ****ing break, frazier owes his entire career to ali. he got man handled in his prime by foreman twice. he went down more times than balboa did v drago for ****s sake.
I think a lot of people rate Frazier higher than Tyson because a lot of boxing fans understand boxing.
