Why do sum people rate Pac above Calzaghe?

Achievment.....this depends on your definition. I can justify EASILY both cases. But since you are asking about Pacquiao, I will briefly detail why. He has won titles in 3 weight classes, he has beaten 2 ATG (Calzaghe has yet to fight one) and has been stopping the majority of his opponents. He does not have the versatility of Calzaghe, however, something has to be said for Pacquiao having mastered his very straight forward style (with some hints of variation) and running through other top fighters, even though they are fully aware of what he is going to do. You do not have to do everything well if you can do one thing so well no one can stop you. These are impressive as accomplishments.

I see Calzaghe's side. But your post seemed to indicate you could not see Pacquiao's side, which seems hard to believe, unless you simply were not looking. You seem to miss alot....not an insult, but I wonder if you are focused so much on Calzaghe that you miss the obvious with other fighters. You did the same in your Calzaghe vs Jones analysis.

the morales wins are very meaningless, its the first barrera win that does it for him. Calzaghe beat kessler, lacy and the eubank he beat was in much better condition that morales was.

 

Well, a better question is: why would anyone put Manny OR Calzaghe above Hopkins?

Do you remember how everyone was talking about controversial scoring in BOTH of Hopkins' fights against the undefeated, top#1 prospect at the time, Taylor? Does anyone remember that B-Hop was P4P#2 at the time (in some eyes, after the Jones-loss and before PBF came up, #1!). Now after 2 very close, controversial losses (in 14 years), after a complete beat-down of an almost P4P top guy (Tarver) who was supposed to win easily, and then a win over the TOP3 P4P guy Winky... why would anyone put Calzaghe or PacMan above Bernard?

Now what did PacMan do lately? KO'd Solis, a guy no one have ever heard before and outpointing a very passive, over the top Barrera who was beaten by a guy named Marquez just a few months before. Calzaghe did beat a very good opponent in Kessler, so he could be in the top 3 if we look back to this year. But in my book, where 3 things matters the most: overall skill level, carreer achivements and performances LATELY, it's got to be PBF#1, B-Hop#2, Calzghe#3, PacMan#4 and JMM in the top five.

calzaghe fights primarily in the uk only giving him a big advantage.

its not easy being the away fighter in your opponents backyard it evens things up.

look at hopkins fighting a relative journeyman fighter mercado in quito.
compared to fighting the same fighter at home.
