Practically evert Thai boxer I've watched has worn yellow trunks with red trim for a number of fights. I haven't seen any other country have specific trunk designs be so popular, especially when it's so dissimilar with that country's flag. Does anyone know the rationale behind this tradition?
Hmm,I have a wild guess here. It might be the sponsors. Now,think about it,krating daeng was a popular drink in Thailand, and many boxers got a good amount of sponsors from them. Looking at the colors, krating daeng had similar colors to the one on Thai boxer's trunks.
I think there's something to that. Pongsaklek typically wore white trimmed with red Red Bull logos when he was active and sponsored by that company. It should be noted that prior to the 80's 90's, the major Thai boxers didn't adhere to a set color scheme, so that must have been when this trend emerged.
