why do the cubans stay amatuer?

    im only 22 and only got heavily involved in boxing in 03/04.i remember the athens olympics when kindelaan beat khan and how good the cubans are in the ams and how long they stay am.why do they stay am so long??

    They aren't allowed to turn pro. Cuba is a communist country, they don't do that.

    when i went to cuba a few years back he was telling me about all these great fighters they have, and because of the government wasn't allowed to turn pro.

    edit: some guy who work at the hotel.^

    Usually it seems that people who are boxing fanatics also are history buffs. Not in this case obviously but it seems like a common theme.

    That's true. Interesting, I never really thought of it. Maybe it's because boxing itself is so old and has such a long history?
