Wilder Wlad Fury Joshua Haye Pulev Povetkin I'm sure most people would agree that this lot above are the current top heavyweight group. So why does not a single one of them have a good chin? You could even say that some of those listed above are actually GLASS. Has a chin become less important at heavyweight? Is it simply coincidence? Thoughts?
Understandably so, but isn't it odd that there isn't a single good chin in the bunch? I mean usually a weight class has a few solid ones. It wasn't like this is previous HW eras.
Povetkin has a very good chin, only floored by Wlad. On a 1-10 scale, I'd say at least an 8. Wlad never had a good chin, but it's not as bad as his critics say. Sanders or Brewster were powerful punchers. Pulev is average here. Three of the others listed are Brittish. 'nuff said!
There's a few good chins, like Mendoza said, Povetkin, and Wach, Parker seems to have a solid set of whiskers, Stiverne and Takam decent, Duhaupas has a great chin, not all of them are glass jawed.
Exactly right on the names. I think a good chin is a bit misunderstood for those who never boxed. Yes--taking it physically has a lot to do with it, but there is the mental side with taking a punch too. Freezing up, getting anxiety when hit, being too scared, coming in tight, and such make a fighter much easier to Floor and TKO/KO. Most heavies can hit. I'd add Luis Ortiz " Kong " to the list based on what I have seen. A pity the champions are ducking him.
Even Lennox Lewis got KO'ed. They are heavyweights and show you just how very important defence is in professional boxing.
