Seems to me that the majority of UFC champions have 60% win ratios, which leaves the journeymen with 0% win ratios in some cases. Why is this?

James Toney, "Randy Coutore is 18-10 and he's a HOF. In boxing he'd be a bum"

Because the top guys are forced to fight each other fight after fight, since they fight in organizations.

If MMA was handled like boxing. You'd see a lot better ratio records.

Randy isn't the best ever, he's up there. Its not about his record, it's about who he's fought and what he's done, at his age to.

All those disciplines, I think it makes it harder to remain undefeated. You have to master boxing, kicking, takedowns, submissions... increases the probability of losing in various ways. Also, the sport is relatively new, still evolving, so it's not like you can have an Andre Ward or Mayweather, who grew up practicing from an early age.

makes sense, so they don't fight bums for the first 20 or so fights in their career to build up a resume?

must be easy to get a title shot in UFC then.

It varies from fighter to fighter.

Brock Lesnar came in and in his 4th fight. Albeit a loss just two fights prior. Won the UFC title.

While Jon Jones fought in 5 different organizations in his first 6 fights.

Then joined UFC and took him 8 fights to get a title shot.

It's not to hard in the UFC, as unless your a long reigning champion, you are likely not going to get an instant rematch, which allows for more opportunities for others.

because fights are evenly matched. Say like the NFL, teams play each other at the top level, not against high school teams.

This is a problem in boxing.

However I think somewhere between is best.

The thread starter is a mong.

The best fight the best in MMA, simple as that. I'm not a fan personally but boxing could learn a thing or two when it comes to match making.

Theres so many ways to be beaten as well. Kicked in the head, punched, wrestled and ground and pound (which is basically the equivalent of getting beaten up by your older brother) and submissions. I used to hate ufc and mma now i don't mind it interesting seeing some mixtures of different fighting techniques. a good wrestling v a jujitsu guy. a boxer v a kick boxer etc.
i just hate the way its set up towards wrestlers(mostly american no doubt). i remember a brock lesnar fight he liteally lay on his opponent and held his wrists down for about four and a half minutes of the round and thoses **** ufc commentators(propaganda merchants) where praising him for using great technique and (cage?)generalship

I'm not a follower or fan or knowledgeable about the sport. How does that make me a mong? If I knew about UFC and asked that I'd be a mong maybe, but seeing as I don't know about it, it's a legit question.

In defense of the UFC, most of their champions now days have far better than a 60% win percentage.

Champions and records by division right now are:

Heavyweight - Junior dos Santos (14-1)

Light Heavyweight - Jon Jones (15-1)

    Middleweight - Anderson Silva (31-4)

Welterweight - George St. Pierre (22-2)

    Lightweight - Frankie Edgar (14-1-1)

    Featherweight - Jose Aldo (20-1)

    Bantamweight - Dominick Cruz (19-1)

because they fight the best of the best everytime. boxing needs to learn from UFC. we need to get rid of ALL promotional companies and just have an HBO or Showtime Organization with match makers. PERIOD
