Losing isn't the end of the world in MMA.. because the fans don't treat the fighters that way. Wish boxing fans could do the same.. stand by their guys even if they lose.
Because MMA/UFC is for bitches. Sloppy Feather fist punches, gay rolling around and hugging? UFC isn't fighting.
Because it's a glorified street fight. Anyone throwing anything could land first and it's over. There's no real skill in that garbage.
yeah gay.. check out frank mir and big nog hugging around. wait for the broken arm part. here i found a vid. start @ 5:00, broken arm @ 7:20 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtm0jcS-P2Y[/ame]
amen! i HATE freaking HATE mma, but my man has a point... imagine the best fighting the best in boxing?? like a SUPER6 tournament in every division year after year... the L's ARE gonna stack up!! in mexico, there are fights of dudes with records of 23-9 vs. some dude who is 12-15 and it would be a ****ing fight of the year type!! we need the best to fight the best in boxing!! look at gattis record... how many loses did he have? and STILL would sale tickets?? emanuel augustus?? i rest my case...
Big boxing fan here but I second bobotnaman. You get taken to the ground by Frank Mir, better start shitting your pants - that's not just rolling around, he's actively & intelligently probing for weak points to choke or submit you. If you don't think there's effective striking in UFC/MMA, might I suggest watching some fights of Anderson Silva or the newest kid on the block, Jon Jones. If you still prefer a boxing-style style striker, some Frankie Edgar, Junior Dos Santos or Masato should whet your appetite. I understand your distaste though, just steer clear of watching anyone with wrestling as their main skill (I don't mind it but the lay & pray is easily the most frustrating aspect for any new casual fans) Have to disagree. Some of them may look sloppy as hell but MMA striking will never look as crisp as boxing because there is always the risk of being taken down to the ground so they have adapted - there is a great article floating around the Internets somewhere on how the shuffling Golem-like boxing of Nick Diaz is actually a return the early days of boxing prize fights. Meh, this is in the wrong sub-forum anyway.
There's no need to try and put up a logical argument when it comes to MMA. Some people are just too subborn and scared of homosexuality to get it.
ALL of the above. and even some of the trolling comments have a grain of truth. it isnt a skillless sport, but it does contain a large element of luck and randomness. the gloveless padding and submission nature, mean a fight can literally end at any moment, by anyone. so while the best will beat the best most of the time, anybody can beat anybody, anytime. whereas in boxing, while there are upsets frequently, a class fighter will be able to sustain and maintain success over any old guy. boxing takes years to attain a world class status, whereas in mma, it seems many fighters have had success after only 3 or 4 years. that said, it is a very very young sport. im sure in 30 years time, the criteria skill wise, and physically , will be far more demanding than what it is today, and fighters will be more techincally fluent, defensively skilled, and fndamentally trained. the biggest thing that is lacking and poor imo is the standup striking and standup defence. we re yet to see anything coming close to a fighter hitting and defending like a world class boxer can. it looks quite clumsy and inefficient. but hey, give it time. when you watch boxing in the 1920's - which is relatively where mma is, its quite primitive in terms of footwork and so on. and with the succes and popularity of mma, im sure its techniques will accelerate. just looking at silva and jones, they have far more skil than the tank abbots 10 years ago, who , whilst were tuff as ****, and hard men, werent skilled martial artists, just roughneck fighters.
