I will rewatch the fight, but I remember Vitali's legs giving out at one point during the fight, I cant remember which round though. It was a war, both men got hurt, while Vitali got the best of him through 6, Lewis looked better going into the second half of the fight, even Lewis said to Merchant after the fight "I just got my second wind Larry, and it was only a matter time before I got him out of there".

Was Vitali ahead vs Lewis: probably
Was Vitali in bad shape due to the cut: yes
Was it a very close fight and not resolved to the fans' satisfaction: Yes
Was Lewis entitled to retire when he damn well pleased: yes
Did Vitali really deserve a rematch: Obviously
    Was that Lewis' problem: No
It's pro boxing. They're both millionaires and have gotten over it years ago. We should too. Next fight.

Whatever. The freakin' point I was trying to make is that it's not that simple. I was trying to give a balanced view of the fight. Even if Vitali was beating Lewis' ass, it still doesn't mean that Lewis wasn't entitled to retire. Not only that, I can assure you that Vitali the multi-millioinare has not been crying himself to sleep each night since then, as apparently you have.

Vitali was more hurt by the short right hand late in round 6, than he was by the uppercut early in the round.

He just held when the uppercut hit him. He held Lewis and fall all over him after taking the short right hand late in the round.

Stuff like "Vitali has one of the greatest rounds won-to-lost ratios ever".

    Wow.

Now let's look at something important, like say, the guys he beat??

Maybe his resume isn't as good to you because his "Mike Tyson" ran away, didn't want to fight and decided to retire. Don't you think? Think about it.

No, it's because he lost his biggest fights to the best guys he faced, and his body couldn't handle the sport anymore when he had the chance to beat some of the best heavyweights around at the time.

He had Chris Byrd in front of him, did well for most of the fight, and he quit when he had an injury.

He had an undertrained, old, inactive for a year Lummox Lewis in front of him, but he lost. His face was cut to shreds.

His brother isn't part of a good era either, and never fought Lummox, but he has a good resume by today's HW standards, because he's beaten a good number of heavyweights who were among the top ones around at the time.

    Lummox

Your take on our recent heavyweights is alot like my own. Sweet Jesus. I knew I wasn't seeing things!

I mean damn. This guy gets hyped up when he couldn't even replicate what Hasim Rahman did to a fat out of shape Lummox. He hit Lummox with how many clean right hands now? And this guy is supposed to be such a huge puncher. :rofl Right...
